Im looking at getting the SCT SF3/X3 Power Flash Tuner and being in hawaii with no tuners i was wondering if anyone has experience with the free tunes you get from BAMA and if that would be good enough until i get back to mainland where there are tuners?

To be honest with your current mods you really do not need a tune. Is your speedometer calibrated for the gears? If so then you really don't need a tune.

Unless you're heavily modded or are running FI, a dyno tune really isn't necessary. The canned tunes from BAMA will be perfect for your car. I run their tunes and love the fact that they are free for life essentially. I've had my SCT tuner for about 10 months now and have had BAMA write me almost 15 different tunes so far, all for free. Their tunes are pretty spot on as well.

I just recently purchased the same tuner from AM with BAMA free tunes for life. I was skeptical at first about the tuner and thought that it would be a waste of money, but it actually is pretty legit. I also wanted the tuner because i am going to put in gears and i wanted to fix the speedo. The car is a little quicker with the tune. I dont feel like there is a lot more power (seat of the pants feel) but I am shifting much sooner and the speedometer is a few mph higher so logic points to faster.

An SCT SF3 from any reputable SCT dealer will be no different that the one you get from BAMA , support your local tuner if you have one , he will appreciate it when you ever need him to dyno tune your car once you modify it further

I got mine for the 3.73's I bought but never got the gears on, a quick e-mail to them to change the tune to not include the 3.73s and to turn on my check engine light due to the EGR removal and I had a retune in less than 24hrs.

Since AmericanMuscle is less than 10mins away from me, i guess that makes them a local tuner to me??? haha

Don't take the cover off: You'll need to re-fill the rear axle and re-seal the diff cover.

A much easier way is to jack the rear of the car up so both wheels are off the ground and support it on jack stands. Put the trans in neutral. Choose a side (e.g. drivers) and put the valve stem of that wheel at the top. Roll under the car and put a chalk mark or tape on the driveshaft at, say, the bottom. Have a buddy turn the wheel 10 full times and count the number of turns the driveshaft makes.

If you have 3.27s you should see around 32-3/4 (32.7) turns.

If you have 3.55s you should see around 35-1/2 (35.5) turns.

If you have 3.73s you should see around 37-1/3 (37.3) turns.

If you have 4.10s you should see around 41 turns.

You can see that you can get a pretty good approximation just by counting whole turns (32, 35, 37 or 41) if you turn the road wheel 10 times...

It would be easier to just turn the wheel just one complete rotation and see if turns 3 and 1/4 turns = 3.27 , 3 1/2 turns = 3.55 , 3 3/4 turns = 3.73 and 4 complete turns is 4.10s LOL

not trying to be a smart ass but most people would probably lose count with 10 turns of the wheel

Again nothing any other SCT dealer can't do and if they are local to you then great

I don't make any assumptions about people's ability to count a fraction of a turn...

Couldn't you just go on the freeway and see what your rpms read at 65 mph?

I have a sct tuner and purchased bama tunes from them a few months ago. I have a few bolt on's but nothing big such throttle body, plenum, CAI, MSD's, gears, off road x and dumped exhaust and used there highest octane tune and i feel it really woke my car up and would recommend it. Plus free tunes everytime you add a mod usually within 24 hours. I recently put my car back to stock tune and you almost want to laugh at how slow your car feels.

As far as gearing do you recommend 410's or 373's?
