So recently I've been having this weird banging coming from the rear end under the car...kinda sounds like a clunk.
It will only happen when i hit a bump, or im turning and accelerating, but it almost sounds like something is falling off of the car, scares me.
Anyway, I got the car on a lift and was looking around, but didn't see anything unusual. The exhaust was the first thing I expected but looking around it seems fine.
Any ideas? Feels like something is hitting right around under the trunk. It has gotten progressively worse. I guess its gonna be hard to diagnose something like this over the web though, but again looking under the car everything was tight.

Is the jack and spare tire all tight back there? They're known for making noise just like you're describing.
Good luck Joe.

Check your springs. I was getting a real bad clunk/banging sounds from the drivers front and pass rear. Just figured it was the ball joint in front and a dead shock in the rear.

While installing the eibach pro-kit springs today I found the problem. The springs in those 2 locations were cracked. The front one was cracked one circle up from thr bottom and the rear was from the top. I never thought springs because it wasn't leaning and the handling never changed.

I had a similar metallic clunk. I eventually found that my shock bushings for the top in the trunk had collapsed and the bolt and washer type thing were clanking together. It might be worth checking since it's easy to get to.

How about exhaust bumping the frame or gas tank?

My Cobra and my friends Cobra both suffered from that clunking and the culprit was a broken sway bar on both of our cars.
