I have a good size scrape on my fender that is down to the bare metal (story will not be told). It's been like that for a few days, and after it rained I could see rust starting to form. Until I have the time/money to get it fixed, is there a quick fix to prevent rust? and to get rid of the small amount of surface rust that has formed?

I can't get it up......ok that didn't sound right.

To remove the current surface rust, using some naval jelly might work, but becareful as to how much of it you use. It will more than likely take off any paint it touches. It will remove the light rust though. As for protection, try a tube of touch up paint to fill in the scratch until you get it fixed. It should keep it sealed.

its not just a scratch, its maybe a 4 square inch scrape. it would be a lot of touch up paint

do you think spraying a coat of rustoleum(sp?) would hold off the rust for a couple of weeks?

other than how bad it looks, it will not hurt it to rust even for a couple of months. The body shop will fix. sand off the rust and cover with rust prev. paint if you like. do not get carried away with the painting.
