Bare or Powdercoated Subframes?

I'm going to order MM Full Length Subframe Connectors and was wondering if I should get the powdercoated or bare metal ones? Wouldn't the powdercoated be better? Also, who installs subframes? I think I heard someone say that a muffler shop would for cheap. There aren't any speed shops within 120 miles of my house.

Remember - they have to be welded in if you want to get the most out of them. And where ever the welds occur, that pretty powder coating will have to come off - probably with the grinder. You might ask and see if they leave the weld areas uncoated. If it were me, unless the bottom of you car is show quality, I'd get the uncoated (save a few bucks) and then paint them after they're installed. Look a little harder - I'll promise you in a town the size of Charleston, there are performance related shops that can weld in your subframes for you.

I've got a set of MM powdercoated full-length connectors, but they're not installed yet. Personally, I don't feel like having to paint the whole rail once its installed so I don't mind having to just grind off the paint where it's going to be welded.

Basically, if you want to paint the whole SFC after its installed, then get the bare metal SFCs. If you want to just have to paint the parts that have been welded, then get the powdercoated SFCs.

Thanks for the replies so far Michael Yount, how much does a shop usually charge to weld in subframes? About how long does it take?

Or you could paint them while they are off the car, and just touch up where it is welded. Just another option to look at.

I got charged $105 to weld in my Kenny Browns at a dune buggy place her in So Cal. Since the labor rates down here are pretty high you should do at least as well if not better.

I got my kenne brown subs put in for $45 smackers, just look around, and a muffler shop is probably your best bet.

I asked MM before getting my full-length subs, and they said between 90-95% of the powdercoating will remain while still doing a proper grind & weld job. I haven't put mine in yet....?
