my friend just bought a 2000gt a few weeks ago and the first thing we
decided to do was install bassani midlength headers and catalytic x-pipe. We spent all day today installing the headers which was a pain in the @$$ but that was expected. We get the headers done and when we start to install the x pipe we realize that the converters are welded to pipes that are designed to be bolted up to the stock manifolds. The x pipe kit came with two extensions that will bolt up to the new headers. We are assuming that your supposed to cut the pipes off of the converters and weld these extensions to them so they will bolt up to the headers. The part number on the x pipe kit matches the number in the instructions for the headers so it's the right kit. Has anybody else ran into this problem and what did you end up doing? We both agree that this is some serious bs to have to cut up a brand new exhaust system so it will fit on the car it was made for. any help is much appreciated.

yeah..you have to weld the two adapters to the x-pipe. Just bolt up the flange to the headers, and mark the midpipe to cut and the adapters to cut. You should only have to make 1 weld spot per side.

Will the adapters slip into the midpipes? Is that what u mean by only having to make one weld?

Since this was one big paragraph...it was kind of hard to understand.

Anyways, basically, the cats dont connect to the headers or something?

yes...the pipes that go from the cats to the headers are for the stock manifolds-not the midlengths.

If you bought the 5-piece catted / non-catted X-pipe, it will bolt right up. In the box the headers came in, there are two short pipes that connect the headers to the cats. I kinda' freaked out too as I didn't remember they were in the header kit box. My wife looked in there and set me straight.

What were the gains of the Bassani mid-length headers with x-pipe. No offense, but I don't want what they are supposed to gain, but actual numbers from a dyno would be nice. My car is na (hope to get blown one day) I am considering the same combination, but I have heard many times that the only headers that are worth installing are long tube headers.

Thanks

Are the Bassani's worth it? I am debating between that and JBA midlengths.

i have the 5 piece X and didnt have to do any cutting or welding, just replaced the front 2 pieces of the x pipe with those that came with the midlengths.
