Bassani X-Pipe

I just ordered my bassani 5piece X-pipe with cats from mark at Lightning force performance and I was wondering if anyone has installed this kit yet and how hard it is going to be to do it on jack stands?

A buddy of mine and I put mine on in about 2 hours on jack stands. Sure, I would've rather had a lift, but it can be done.

Good choice ordering from Mark - top notch guy! I first met him 5 years ago when I started modding my Lightning.

Had a muffler shop do mine...time....frustrstion and dont have jack stands, charged me 90.00. Great sound and the cats do burn out a little.

can u run the pipe without the cats? and would i have to do any cutting or anything like that to make it without the cats? i dont want to put them on cause i want it to be loud and finally, does anyone have it matched up with the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle back?

no im saying to run the pipe without cats... i know alot of people who ride with no cats, they had to remove them. can i order a bassani pipe with the cats and choose to keep them off and possibly put them back on if i get tickets... ahh am i making sense?

Mike -

The 5-piece kit I have and that joshman ordered is actually a 7-piece kit. You actually only use 5 pieces, you can swap out the CompCats for the off-road legs. It's all done with clamps and bolts.

I'm running the o/r legs right now.

am i dumb or something? i cant find the 2005 mustang x pipe on www.lightningforceperformance.com i am interested in it, but i am having trouble finding it on any website right now.....

Call Mark at LightningForce - he hasn't had the 05 parts put out on the site yet.

You can do it on jack stands, I did mine that way and it only took a couple of hours. You are gunna need a swivel extension to get to the bolts on the headers to take the stock cats off. Other than that the hardest part is just aligning everything. Just get it all aligned the way you want before tightening everything down. As far as not using the cats you can still pass an inspection as long as they don't do a sniff test. My comp cats tripped the CEL b/c they were causing the car to be slighly lean so I would guess if you use those strait through pipes you will have a similar situation. I did a custom SCT tune to get rid of the leanness and I should pass inspection now. Overall you are gunna love the sound and performance of the system. I know I do. I did my install on jackstands in about 2-3 hours. Like I8URVTEC said, you will need swivels and extensions, and I highly recommend PB Blaster or some other penetrating oil as it will save you a lot of time and frustration. Aligning it wasn't too bad for me, but my only complaint is that a part of my exhaust is now vibrating against something on the car every once in a while which can be annoying, but other than that I love it. As everyone else said Mark at LightningForce is an excellent guy to deal with and provides top notch service.

I have one quick question... is a tune required with an off-road x-pipe? Or can you just use the X-cal2 to turn off the rear O2 sensors?

A tune is not technically required for the off road x-pipe however it definatly helps. My car was running slightly lean b/c of the Bassani off road x pipe. By slightly lean I mean the CEL would come on intermitantly. We ran the codes and it did say it was lean. Basically the stock computer will adjust for 5% A/F in either direction so this was causing it to trip the CEL b/c it was right on the adjusment mark. I had a tune done and no more CEL (knock on wood) and the car runs strong. They don't turn off the O2 sensors but rather just correct the A/F ratio for the new cats. Hope that helps.
