Instead of getting a real-purpose battery box, I was wondering about a plastic tool box bolted to the floor, holes with grommets for the wires and a tube for the notious gasses to escape the cargo area.

The box would be big enough to put a can of "fix-a-flat", a small air compressor, vice-grips, and a multi-purpose screwdriver :D In case I see a chevy on the side of the road or something lol :p

Personally, I wouldn't want other stuff (that could conduct electricity) bouncing around inside a container where my battery was located. I used a simple WalMart marine battery box - $6. Shoot me your email address if you'd like to see pics of my installation.

I dont need to be NHRA legal but it would be a good guideline though. One thing for sure I will secure this thing, I don't want a heavy battery to fly onto the back of my passenger's head in case of an accident.

I went and got a marine box for 14$ CAD I just need to make sure the battery will vent outside instead of the cargo area.

what about optima batteries....arent they sealed? so do you need to vent the battery box? maybe they arent sealed....dont know

They are sealed. Not sealed as in meets NHRA regulations for a whole box, but technically sealed as in, if you don't care about the rules they're safer than a standard battery.
