I am planning to move the battery on my '83 to the rear to make room for the mass air conversion, and I was wondering if I could cut the terminals off the stock "hot" and "ground" wires and connect them to 0 gauge wire and run them to the back of the car through the firewall? Would I have any issues with the battery not charging or hard starts? I am just trying to look for a cheaper alternative to a battery relocation kit. Thank you for you help.

No need. The positive just goes to the remote starter solenoid (I'm guessing your '83 uses one). So you just need to run the 1/0 gauge from the solenoid to the battery. And a ground is a ground so ground the battery somewhere in the back.
If you don't use a remote solenoid, then just run the positive from the battery to the starter.
However, keep in mind this is not track legal. You will not be allowed to ever make a pass down a 1/4 with it wired this way.

I just did this,,, I bought the summit kit, remove the old positve and neg.. ran new positive from the solenoid to the back to the battery thought the firewall with wire loom on it... Ran down to autozone, got 3 more ground wires that where 24 inces long and had just the loops on each end.. went over to the pass side of the block and on the block, about 6 inches from the timing cover is the bolt that holds the starter wire bracket to the block, I took out that bolt cleaned it really good with sandpaper and put 2 of the 24 inch cables ends on it and bolted it back it.. I ran 1 cable to the sway bar bushing bolt that bolts to the frame, and one to the body where the strut tower bump is (cleaing off all the paint first),,
then in the back I ran the big bastard that came in the summit kit from the neg term of the battery to the wheel hop shock bolt that goes into the frame (cleaned first) ..... and the other 24 inch fro the neg term to the floor of where the spare tire goes ( again cleaned paint off first).. Worked like a charm....... tony

where the posite wire form your battery goes know, that is your solenoid,, just remove and replace..
