i am moving my battery to the trunk and also puttin in an aluminum 2 core rad with electric fan. is there anything special i have to do with the wiring? should i use the wiring that came with the box. its the relocation box from summit. i think its like 4 gauge wire.

will i need the bigger alt or will my stocker be fine?

thanks

you can do what you want - i would not do this w/o goin with an upgraded alt (95 amper, 3G, rewind your stocker, etc). you will have a less efficient system simply from the distance juice must now flow. add to that your new fan (what brand, etc is it? how much does it draw?)

i dont know about the AWG wire you got - i would use 1/0 myself. i would defer to Yount, Hllon, Tom et al, on whether that will suffice (and allow growth with elec upgrades).

my two cents. good luck.

I believe the summit wire kit is 2 gauge. It wouldnt hurt to double up on it weather it is 2 or 4 gauge (ESP if 4 gauge). The wire is marked look close it is probably stenciled on the insulation.

My only other recomendation is to ground the engine to the frame and have a good ground from the battery to the body.

The stock alt is loaded already. It is a good idea to upgrade it now as well.

Do some searches here, there is plenty of good and fresh info. This has been a very hot topic lately. Winter must make people want to work on their cars.

Its 42 degrees here tonight. That is cold enough for me. If I only had a garage!

Another side note. I cranked my car for the first time in a long time today. I checked the voltage at idle (1500) 14.xx. I turned on my electric fans (2 at 13 total amps) and my lights (tail only) and I dropped to 12.7. I am considering an alt upgrade for a drag raced only stang. I want 14 volts at idle.

This should give some people an idea of what to do in a street stang. I dont have headlights, A/C, stereo, wipers, EFI, etc and I am still barely charging the battery at 1500 rpms.
