Hey guys quick question I just installed a BBK O/R x pipe and a Borla cat back stinger exhaust on my 02 Mustang GT and its sooooo loud kinda obnoxious in a sense. What can I do to tone it down a little? I was thinking some cats. would that tone it down at all? Or is it the the x-pipe? Thanks guys

Cats will take a little "bark" out of it, but is the mufflers that axle back is packaged with that are going to make the most difference.

If you like the Borlas, you could always weld in a set of ProXS mufflers in place. Quieter than the S-type, but still hive you the throaty tone.

If it were me, I'd just piece my own axle back together from scratch. There's not much to them considering what they charge you for them.

I have a 2003 GT and went with Flowmasters Original 40 series with a stock exhaust system and it was too loud for me. At 65 mph it was annoying. It lasted about 29 minutes before I put the stock mufflers back on. All people who commented on aftermarket exhaust said the same thing, that all will be loud and all will have some amount of drone. I should have listened.

Flowmasters area something you get because it is what you know. For a while you love it. It is loud and angry. They are cool. Then one day you wake up an old guy and cannot handle the constant drone, beating down your ear canal the entire time you are driving.

I love Borla Stingers and an X pipe. You could throw some dynamat down to get some of the noise out of the cabin. Screw everybody outside the car.

Put an H Pipe on and it will remove the tingy rasp and give it a deeper rumble.

That and cats help too but are pricey.

I've NEVER liked how BBK X pipes (or even their H pipes) sounded.

Generally, H-pipes give more of a muscley sound, where X-pipe give off a higher pitch.

BBK X-pipes are closer in design to your standard H-pipe. Not as streamline as some of the other designs. I've got one on my car and think it sounds just fine with my Long Tubes and Borla ProXS mufflers?
