Im in the process of putting on my shorties. I got the drivers side on with no problem , but the passenger is a pain in the ass and wont go in. I got rid of all the emmission crap already and it wont squeeze between the shock tower and the top of the head.. How does everyone go about installing bbk shorties? From the top?bottom? If i go from the bottom and remove the starter will it go in?? im so frustrated!!!

hmm. Mine went in no problem at all. Maybe you can go in from the bottom?

Ohh and also, are they the unequals or equals?

the passenger side is really hard to get in. You have to losen the motor mount on the passenger side, and raise the engine with a jack until you can get the header in.

So no has done it from the bottom by removing the starter? Not sure if they are equal or unequal, got them from a guy locally along with a bbk o/r H-pipe.

Equal length headers look like a snake orgy and unequals are four pipes coming together at a flange.

Mine went right in as well. I can't imagine what would make it so difficult unless your motor mount is collapsed.

If they are equal length the tubes will have some crazy bends in them to make all 4 pipes equal length. If they are unequals you will notice that the 4 pipes are different lengths. I'm guessing that since you are having that much trouble getting it in, they could be equals. All you have to do is loosen the motor mounts and instead of jacking up the engine, just push on the throttle body or intake manifold to shift the engine just enough toward the driver's side to get it in there. Much easier than screwing with your starter.

yeah I have the long tubes, but I am sure you can loosen the passenger side motor mount and jack the engine up as high as necessary and you shouldnt have a problem going in. Jacking the motor up isnt hard or for me it isnt

I actually just got done putting my shorties on about a week or two ago. I personally thought the drivers side was more of a PITA than the passenger side. First it was the brake lines and brake booster, then after I managed to work them around the brake lines, then the valve covers got in the way. I figured since I was putting in new rocker arms I would wait to do them then. After I got the valve covers off then I had to work them around the steering shaft...lol. The passenger side on the other hand slipped right in after I tugged up on my AC line. Like others said you may have to jack to your engine on one side.

Good Luck!

Headers are on but now i have a clankin sound now like somthing is vibrating off the headers or somthing. Its on the drivers side. Any ideas ? Too tired to mess with it anymore....fun weekend dicking around with stang =/ . Also with the air pump lines on the passenger side i just removed the rubber hoses from the pump itself and the metal piping that goes around the back of the motor i just bent back and fourth till it snapped off so now i have pipe right by the tranny fluid dipstick blowing air =/ How do i go about blocking it off??

I put both of my bbk equal length headers on from the bottom, much easier, and I did have to jack up the engine a bit, I replaced my motor mounts at the same time with new poly ones. that gavet the headers more clearance from the steering shaft. It really wasn't that bad of a job, but I really recommend putting them up from the bottom, and removing the steering shaft, which was easy, I didn't need to touch my starter!

Installing my equal lengths I had to un-bolt the motor mounts and jack it up a little bit. I am hoping my new shorties will fall right in...we'll see.

i have BBK unequals and they go went right in no problems whatsoever. the passengers side has more crap in the way (have to remove the air tube, but thats it) but the drivers side only has the dipstick tube bolted to it.

sounds like you have unequals. now that you have them in, pop the hood and have someone else start the car while you look at what the headers touch. the engine will vibrate more during startup than steady idle. maybe it pulled the mid pipe up more and the mid pipe is touching the tranny xmember? i had to trim my cats heat shield.

Just bought new vert motor mounts from carquest today. Only cost around $58. Anything else i will need, or is just take the old out and bolt in the new? Also what about the metal piping to the smog pump? How do i go about blocking it off?And hopefully these vert mounts dont lower the engine too much and give me my same problem. My car has 110,000 on it and the mounts are cashed! Literally ! They are totally cracked up on both sides. hopefully the mounts will take care of my problem, Just to give a little more detail on how the engine is sitting.. on the passenger side the header is right on the metal piping for the AC.

i would jack the motor up as much as reasonably possible, throw those headers on, pop the mounts in there, button it all up, and plug the smog doody with a wine cork. then drink the bottle of wine!

If you've damaged the piping from the smog pump, you're going to have a mess on your hands unless A: you repair the broken pipe or B: remove the EGR completely. I took mine off a long time ago, so I'm a little foggy on exactly how the smog pump assembly looks but if you did break a line, make sure it isn't the one that comes directly from the mid-pipe, because that just means you have an exhaust leak.

Easiest way to change motor mounts is one side at a time, leaning the motor with a jack. Be careful you don't lean the motor too far or you could damage things above that you can't see while you are under the car (i.e. tearing part of the wiring harness).

I'd take some pics of where you broke that pipe, if it's the one between the heads, it may be a real PITA to fix depending on where you broke it.
