i was wondering how good the BBK SSI intake as well as the BBK Race intake manifolds were. i haven't really heard anything about them and i'm torn between getting one of those or a trick flow intake manifold thanks for your help

There's a couple of guys that have ran them (the SSI intake) here on the forums. I can only remember one off hand (69clark). I believe he had several problems with it, one of which being big oil control problems with the PCV valve. He sold it after a short time and ended up putting a sheetmetal intake on instead. The other one was over here in the Fox 5.0 side, as 69clark is a 94-95 guy. I'm not totally familiar with the other one, and don't remember the whole story, so hopefully someone will come along and let you know about that one. You really couldn't go wrong with one of the TFS intakes though. They're exceptionally high quality pieces, and can flow some amazing numbers. If it were up to me, it'd be TFS hands down.

1st off welcome to Stangnet! 2nd, thanks for serving your country. Ok, now for your question, what are your plans for the engine? I see you are looking at a stroker when you get back. Do you have ideas as far as power goals, driveability, cam specs, intended use (street / strip)? Since these intakes are relatively new I haven't heard much about them. I don't think there is much experience with them yet. Searching the threads would be a good idea because I know there has been discussion on here about them. As far as the TFS intakes, I run the street heat and am impressed with the performance. I wasn't impressed with the ease of installation though. I had to grind on the upper in order to make room for the socket so I could tighten the upper bolts.

.

there crap. the end

Wow! Thanks for the totally useless comment!:nonono:

From what I've read, the SSI intake is not all that great. It looks pretty cool, but I think that's as far as it goes. I think they should have made it to use dual throttle bodies or made a center TB like the GM F-bodies have. Would have been much cooler. I would search around for some reviews.

your welcome. like yours was any more helpfull than mine. and the only reason i say it is because ive seen a bunch of the topics get brougth up and i once looked at getting it and i know where the problems occur. and he didnt ask what would make it look cooler.

Posts like, "it's junk" are totally useless. If you say, "It's junk. I've read a dozen articles that say XXX intake is the better choice." That is a worthy post. I included that I had read in a couple of places that it was not very good and added my $.02 that I liked the way it looked.

here is what i have physically seen wrong with them. the casting between the upper and lower intake is off. they cause small vacum leaks and rough idles. the fuel line run's between the upper and lower and because of its placement rubs the sharp edges of the intake and causes it to bust. and the injector castings in the lower are a little off camber and cause injector O-rings to fail and leaks gas.

Now that's a good post.

I have also heard all the problems that BKcauley mentioned. They have oil consumption problems due to PCV placement. The fuel rails are nice...but they are large and have fitment issues and do cause a funky angle with the injector seats. For some reason the angle does not allow the o rings to seal properly and it may leak. They do look cool though?! i guess.

Whats the plan for the engine. The explorer/cobra/gt-40 intake produces the nicest street friendly torque curve you can find on the market. But they run out of steam above 5000 rpm. good luck man
