there have been a lot of people saying they've had problems with the bbk, like fuel leaks. you should be able to pick up all that stuff for around $1000 brand new! $550 for the SSI, ~$280 for injectors, $125 for the MAF, $130 for a 255lph.....

what other mods do you have? i'd say the money could be spent better elsewhere, but it really depends on what you have already....

I researched it last year when I was looking for an intake, I heard of the fuel leaks. I think you have to use a BBK afpr with it, the others dont fit. One guy with a Cobra kit car had an internal coolant leak because of defective thin casting. A lot of people think it should have been a dual TB design to work efficiently.

what's a bbk intake? (only one i know of is the SSI???) also, you shouldn't need 30lb fuel injectors yet with those mods. and a larger MAF doesnt do much (if any) good if you're still running a stock TB
i highly recommend subframe connectors being your next mod!

What are these? I too love the look of the systemax, but it really needs a blower.

I think he is refering to a cold air pipe. I agree on the injectors. Also agree on SFC's if the are not already installed.

The BBK SSI is recommended for a 1500-6500 RPM powerband.

It has a 75mm throttle body opening and a built-in EGR spacer.

BBK-5001* 1986 - 1993 5.0L SSI Intake Manifold - $580
BBK-5002* 1986 - 1993 5.0L SSI Intake Manifold w/ BBK-1501 70mm Throttle Body - $760

Looks like a decent intake to me.

Like many new products, many are scared to try it and spend money on it.

there have been quite a few people that have gotten past the leaks and quality issues and run the intake successfully. what really pisses me off is that no one will post any dyno pulls or describe how their car behaved after all the bugs were worked out. personally the design looks like it could flow pretty well and really wake up an engine, but all I hear is a bunch of haters that say it is crap straight from the box. Sure BBK should clean up the design and cure their quality probs, but how does a properly functioning intake perform on a healthy motor???? I wish I knew. I would jump at the chance to try one if I could find it at a decent price.

i like the look, and the fact you can take your VC's off with the intake still on. i almost bought one right when they came out, but i saw nothing but bad reviews, so i held off. it seems of late, that the quality has improved quite a bit, but i'm not in a position to be buying mods right now, but i think i'll give it another look in the future....

I do believe there is some excessive "hating" going on, and I think the intake is not to shabby.

Good reading on the BBK intake:

http://www.mustang50magazine.com/techarticles/m5lp_0603_bbk_ssi_r_intake/index.html

Some of the fuel leak issues I seen, seemed to be install error.

This is my issue with the intake:

Before I start, didn't this SSI Intake issue come up before and got shut down? Anyway, I strongly believe in customer service/support. A close friend of mine purchased the SSI intake for his '93 GT. He had the same problems that a lot of people had - fuel leaks. Mind you, my friend is no novice mechanic! When he called BBK to talk to their tech support, they basically said too bad. Well, he went through a buttload of o-rings and finally fixed his fuel leak problems. There were other fitment issues besides the fuel leaks.

Just so other's know, I'm not busting on BBK or their products. I have several on my Mustang and they work quite nicely. I was just a bit disappointed when they (the tech support) were so rude.

As it was stated above, I would love to see a comparison with this intake and others....it is a nice looking and unique intake!

My .02 cents

Clay

from what I have read, the easiest fix is to modify the stock fuel rail to fit the new intake. I would then sell the BBK ones and make some mad cash on EBAY.

AFR makes heads, ARP makes fasteners (i.e. head BOLTS)
