I have a 93 LX 5.0 with an automatic transmission. I just replaced the oil pan gasket and everything appears to be dry as a bone around the pan for the last few weeks.

Here is my problem. Fluid, maybe redish or brownish color, is leaking from the bellhousing area. I pinpointed the leak coming from the metal cover that hides the torque converter bolts that go to the flywheel. What could be leaking behind there?

Is the trans going????

Sounds like the pump to torque converter seal (most common) or the pump housing to trans housing gasket (no so common)

How much would something like that cost to have repaired? Does this involve transmission oil or engine oil? I have also noticed that when I rev up the engine, I can smell oil burning. When I look under the car, I can see smoke (from the oil burning) hitting the back of the exhaust right under the rear main seal to the front of the driveshaft. I know that seal is good though because it was just replaced. Could the oil be falling from the bellhousing and then, while driving, the oil is hitting the exhaust on the way to the ground?

Thanks for all of your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not sure on cost but the tranny needs to be pulled to get the torque converter out to fix the pump seal. The leak will look like a rear main due to the location, it's going to push tranny fluid out and get it all over the exhaust when driving due to the wind under the car blowing it onto the exhaust. keep an eye on the fluid level in the tranny, check when the car is hot, running at an idle..in park . get it fixed soon, this isn't good for the tranny or the converter.
