Bellhousing pattern question about 4 cyl

I am tryig to figure out if the C4 behind a 302 will fit the 1989 Mustang.I got a car with a missing tranny that was a overdrive and I am thinking of putting a C4 in there to save money.That damn overdrive tranny is to expensive around here about a grand and more with me doing the labor.I have a extra C4 laying in the shop.Thank's for any help.

Supposedly there were c4 bellhousings used behind the 2.3 in the Pinto and Mustang 2 days, and they are the only ones Ford made to mate the two. I have no idea how common or easy to find one would be.

Maybe find a Pinto wagon? Maybe a trans shop would have one.

yup, mustang II and pinto is where you have to go. They made tons of them, however most bone yards dont keep these cars around. Look in the bone yards 74-78 Mustang II. Post something on the Mustang II message board here too, somebody might be parting out a car.
