My first choice would be AFR 165s since you want a smaller head. Their CNC program is unmatched. I have had my AFR 185s on 3 Motors, they make great power and are durable as hell. Trick flows would be my second choice.

Oh yeah, get the cobra lower port matched if you get the AFRs, you will be glad you did. Worth the $100 or so.

AFR 165's would be my first choice...TW's second...Eddy's third...

They are all very very close in quality...

My first motor was stock with an E cam and Cobra intake. Had the AFR 165s and it put 301hp on the dyno at the tires.

Go TFS Twisted Wedge, cheaper and more future pontential. The valve angle lets the heads use a large valve, witch should make more power along with the better valve angle.

I was told buy a guy with a 8 sec 4 eyed GT that if you think it's to big get it cause you will need it later on with the next few mods. He also said he didn't do that for the longest time and it was like he was going backwards half the time selling stuf he just bought and buying the same thing only bigger and loosing alot of money buy doing so.

+1. That is why I bought smog legal 185s. Now I have grown into them. Unless you never want to progress.

The guy I talked to might even be on here He had a black 4 eye'd GT with some air brushing on the front end and it was not a street car. The car was a show car that he could take to the track and lay down an ass woppin... well I gues it was a race car that was nice enough to take to the shows.

AFR's hands down. You can BUY AFR's on a lot of sites and ebay... but you won't get them for a month or two cause they build them to order. Only places I've found that always have them in stock is www.jegs.com and www.adperformance.com I got my 165s for my 83 from Jegs. GREAT heads... And the 185s will create p to v problems. AFR heads really keep their value... get 165s now, and when you NEED 185's, sell your 165's for 1100 bucks and it will only cost ya about 200 to get 185s.

I cant say anything bad about the AFR's as Ive never owned them, I can also say ive only heard good things about them. However, I have owned Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads for about 3 years now and I absolutely love them. they are nice looking heads as well and great performers. They made a immediate seat of the pants kick after the install. I got the heads with the 2.02 valves, and the matching stage 1 cam. only drawback about the heads is because of the valve angle, you cant run a huge cam or you will have issues unless your running TFS pistons etc. but the heads with the matching cam are a great buy. you can even find a good used set of trick flows on ebay for a great price as I did. bout 800 bucks. good luck.
