i'm new to the stang scene and have a 91 coupe that is stock with cold air and h pipes with 160000 but it still pulls strong. i would like to get in the mid 11's and have a $2000 budget. what bolt ons should i buy and what size. what about the ignition. i'm mechanically inclined and can do most of the work myself. thansk in advance.

With that budget, mid 11's may only be possible with a good H/C/I combo, and taking most all the weight off the car that you can. Not even sure how much of a combo you can build up, unless you found some deals, did some work yourself.

Maybe a ported explorer intake from the old salvage yard would save you some loot. Port it yourself of course.

With your mileadge, and if everything is original, upgrading some parts will quickly make others that may only be "hanging in there" to fail. It will nickel and dime you pretty bad, so your best bet is to do some very good general maintenance. Refresh all your seals, replace gaskets, good tune-up. New ignition system, and possibly upgrade the fuel system. Check your sensors, etc.

A good house must have a good foundation, but you do need to use good nails and bolts too.:)

Definately need more than just a combo to get into the 11s. Gears and slicks are a defiate and some chassis support so you don't tear your car apart. Or just get a huge bottle of nos.

slicks, thumper heads, 4:10's cam, 200 shot, ported upper n lower (or explorer ect correct me if i'm wrong but the tfs combo is more than 2000 and you won't run 11's the above combo will get you there but won't be reliable if you don't care then do it also you could save alittle more money and get a turbo kit that would take you close to 11's

If your on a tight budget as most of us are..I would look into buying used parts from here or Corral try and stick to local sales or within driving distance so you see what your getting...Pictures hide lots!

I got my TFS heads for 900.00 with valve covers, rockers, pushrods and the intake for 300.00 off of Corral..Throw in 150.00 for the cam another 100.00 for gaskets and you save 500.00 to spend on injectors, maf or whatever else you might need!

But if it's gotta be new pieces the TFS kit is as complete as you can get!!

If 11s was possible with $2000 and reliable then everyone would have 11 second cars.

Even to do a H/C/I, you'll need a new TB. Buy some headers and a cat-back. New fuel pump. Adjustable fuel pressure regulartor. New MAF calibrated for 24# and get some 24# injectors. No point of doing that with the stock gears, so you'll swap those. If you have a 5-speed you'll want an aftermarket shifter. If an AOD you'll want a shift kit and torque convertor.

You'll need a good suspension to hook so you can reach 11's.

So basically, unless you are one hell of a driver and can find some whicked ass deals, you aren't reaching 11's on 2 grand.

11's for $2000? It took this recipe out of my own cook book:
1.Buy a set of slicks or drag radials (only Mickey Thompsons) $320
2. Ditch the power steering, radio, a/c, heat, speakers, smog stuff. That will get you down to around 2800lbs. Do all of the free stuff, take out the air silencer, bump the timing, change to all synthetics.
3. Take the car to the track. It will run mid-high 13's with no motor work
4. Next, get some gears, probably 4.10's as the will run out of mile an hour right at the rev limiter in 4th if you get into the 11's. We are at a total of $850, slicks, gears and install)
5. At the track it should be low-mid 13's.
6. Buy some pullies, a cat back and a 255lph fuel pump,we are at $1300
7. Buy a nitrous kit, pill it for a 150 shot. This will put you in the eleven's for around $1900, including one full bottle of the juice.

I started with this recipe. With the pullies and cat back and free mods my car would run 13.5 with a completely stock motor. It was putting down 225 hp to the ground and running through the traps at 99.75. At that point I decided to take a different route and went with H/C/I. It now runs 12.70's on street tires at almost 111. If I were to add the nitrous to the stock combo, it would have been in the 11's. If you do the math, a 150 horse shot would yield around 125 at the wheels for a total of around 350. 350 rwhp equates to around 115mph or 11.75. I know that this math is not perfect and does not take into account how good the driver is, but it has been spot on for me. It will be good enough to garuntee 11's. Oh, and you have to launch at 5K and shift as fast as you can!

If you find all of the stuff used, you can add some headers and an h-pipe.
