Best Cold Intake and Programmer?

Anybody have any experience with the Granatelli setup that comes with a new MAF and doesnt need a tuner? Granatelli claims 48 hp gains with his bundled cai and exhaust kit for 650 bucks.

I don't have any personal experiences to share but have done quite a bit of extensive research and can tell you this ??? if you plan on adding future modifications to your Stang that require a tuner ? you cannot use the new MAF which is supplied with this setup and here's why ?? all custom and canned tune files are set up to only work with the Factory MAF sensor because the tune files are based upon the Stock MAF calibration settings where on the other hand ? the supplied MAF is not..Therefore you have just 2 options ? if you plan on purchasing this setup and have no intentions on doing any future modifications ?? then fine you'll be good to go with this setup ? However if in the event you should decide to upgrade your mod's ?? you'll have to un-install the supplied MAF and then re-install your Factory MAF before using a custom tuning device anyway, hope this provides some answers to you're questions and wish you the very best of luck...:SNSign:

I already have a brenspeed C&L and tuner, just wondered if how the Granatelli compared performance wise. You are right, not much flexibility without a tuner.

I put on a JLT kit and had it dialed in on a dyno, picked up 18 horsepower. The difference in the sound when you mash it is a nice plus, but I'm sure all the open element type kits do that

I'm not discounting your claim at all, I DO beleive you gained 18rwhp over baseline. But I want to say that these claims are INCLUDING a tune (correct in your case as well I assume?), I've seen guys gain 20rwhp with a stock intake and just a tune, although a tune alone is usually more like 10-15rwhp.

Yeah, they baselined it and then did the CAI and tuned it again. Would have been curious to have them tune it before the intake.

I'll put my Airaid, Diablosport, and Magnaflow exhaust combo up against any other intake/tuner/cat-back combo out there. 291 rwhp on a Superflow dyno and that was before removing the MIT in the Airaid intake and using the canned Airaid tune.

The C&L Racer plastic intake is the only one I would even consider on my car. To me the rest look bad from the pics I have seen. I did had the JLT but couldn't get used to the looks of that plastic pipe they use nor the schroud.

The C&L has a half decent looking schroud. When I'm moving my inlet air temperature comes right down to virtually ambient moving while logging. The JLT schroud is, well, less than desired . The others may be as bad but the JLT is the only one I've actually had experience. Get the C&L Racer!

What about the AFE???

I've been reading up on all the different CAI's and I keep jumping from BBK to
Airaid to C & L to Granatelli to Tuneable Induction back to C & L but what about
the AFE with the covered box which seems to make sense keeping the hot air
out. (There is another one that utilizes a covered filter intake) It also seems to
have alot of credence that the one's with the metal tubes would be counter
productive.

Cold air/hot air/...... It really does not matter, and is more personal preference.

I chose JLT because it seemed to be the most cost effective intake with a tune. I felt that the C&L might be a little better, but I like to support the little guys and not big name company's (only if the results are close, which they were).

This subject has been discussed on 2 other major Modular forums and the general answer is that C&L and JLT are the most popular and give the best results. Just make sure that you go with one of the mentioned tuners Brenspeed/Bamachips. I personally chose Brenspeed because I heard his customer service was Top Notch.

I agree with your whole post except for the part I quoted. Inlet air temperature is a huge factor; with everything else being the same...a few degrees cooler air can make a significant difference at the rear wheels.

No comment on the aFe???

StangNet did a review on it and gave it two thumbs up. That was without a tune.
I'm sure you could do a tune for it also like any of the others. Refer to StangNets
"Tech" article section.

Steeda/FRPP are just as good, just don't purchase their pro calibration tool ?..Brenspeed has the best pricing on the Steeda/X-CAL II combo for $675.00.. However you also can't go wrong with JLT and Tunable Induction either..their both also very high quality kits at very affordable prices..

This is why I'm going to go with the WMS CAI using the ram air box as well. It has 3 holes at the front in the radiator cover that force the air in and straight back to the filter. I'm sure at higher speeds, that this could get more and cooler air flow to the filter than the other CAIs using the stock filter location.

Ordered my WMS CAI/SCT X-CAL 2 Tuner Package and Pypes O/R H pipe from Brenspeed just minutes ago!!!!! I also ordered directly from WMS the ram air box as Brenspeed does not carry them. I also want to get 4.10s, but I need to go talk to the people at a speed shop not that far from me that is a sponsor for a Mustang Club to see what they say about install cost and when I could get it done. I CAN'T WAIT, but I know I have to!!!!! The best thing about all this is that my job is paying for it all since it is from my yearly bonus I get every mid January!!!!! So it's not costing me a cent...
