Best flowing exhaust system?

What do you think is the best flowing exhaust system? I want something loud and has the highest flow. I will need a catted midpipe, however.

What combination would you all recommend? I will prefer an X pipe, because HP gains will be a factor. Should I go with SLP totally? I have heard they have the highest flow.

if u want the highest flow stay away from chambered muffs, straight through is the way to go, magnaflow catback makes good power and so does the dynomax ultraflo, slp loudmouth is a little much for my taste cuz its not really a muffler, its just a resonator. as for the x dr. gas seems to be the best, but its kinda pricey, prochamber is supposed to have x-pipe flow with h-pipe sound, i can vouch for the sound but havent seen any #'s, but u prob just started a really long thread so you'll get plenty of info, good luck

It was for an LX 5.0, but it should give you a feel for the performance and quality offered from the different manufactures.

the slp loudmouth system, just from looking at it, looks like it would flow nearly as well as straight pipes, very minimal bending and not a muffler to speak of.

Borla is the best flowing exhaust and you will get the most power gains out of it of all the exhaust systems. I also like the sound of Borla also. Get some LT headers, bassani X-pipe, and Borla catback that should be the best power giving combination. Personally I dont like the sound of the Bassani X-pipe but I think that will give you the best power gains.

I just had a Magaflow X-Pipe (w/cats) and Magnaflow Catback installed on Tuesday. I love the sound, and can really feel the difference in how the car performs. I plan on taking it back to have it dyno'ed soon to see what kind of gains have been realized--and will post the results once done.

Not too loud, not too soft--just right for me. My pony grew a bigger set of balls, that's for sure.

Pick the one that sounds good to you.Any muffler can show good flow on a bench but on a car with pipes around it is a completely different story..

Peaple keep saying stay away from chambered mufflers..But they make just as good in the power department as the others..

I guess my if i got magnaflows or SLP i would pickup .02hp over my flowmasters.

The same goes for a x or h pipe.They are about the same..x makes a few more ponies and hte h makes a few more in the torque area..
Again go with what sounds good..

i was looking into getting some 2 chamber flowmasters and slap them on my stock exhaust setup but i dont know how well that will go for HP gains.
i am probably just gonna go with a cat back setup and get a matching 2 1/2" h/x pipe setup.

Currently, I have Magnaflow mufflers welded into my stock setup. That's it for the exhaust. The only other mod I have is a K&N FIPK. I felt no gains from the Magnaflows, but when I added the K&N too, I can feel more response, if nothing else.

I am really wanting to know what the benefit of getting a complete catback system would be over what I now have (the welded-in Magnaflows). What is different? I mean, if I got some SLP Loudmouth mufflers and welded them into the stock setup, wouldn't it be the same as the whole SLP catback system as far as performance? I don't understand what make the whole catback part different from the regular stock setup. But, I don't know much about this, so that is why I am asking everyone about it.

I want a LOUD, yet catted setup. I am more of a torque kinda guy, so I will probably hit the H-pipe instead of the X.

That being said, what would a good setup be if I'm looking for LOUD as possible, and a Catted H-pipe?

Plus if someone could answer my question about what the difference is between simply welding in mufflers to the stock setup and getting a whole catback setup, like the SLP Loudmouth, I would appreciate it A LOT!

really the difference between welding the muffler in and getting a whole catback is a big difference. slp has a different stainless steel thank stock cb. it is thicker and heat treated differently. if u want loud and just loud and wanna get out of it for a cheap price, just get a catted x or h and then go and buy two dynomax bulitt mufflers they are about 50 each and u can get them from brothers performance or something like that. they are kinda like slp but cheaper. u get what u pay for. the cb by slp will give u some decent gains. if u do slp i would do everything. long tubes and x pipe and then cb. if u have the money for that though. personally i dont see the cost efficiency with the headers, because they are 700 dollars to buy and like 500 to install or somewhere around there. for the amount of hp u will get, it might be better to get gears and pulleys instead. not alot of hp but a quicker time and the gears u will see a significant difference in while driving from light to light. i currently have an off road h pipe and stock cb but wanna get slp catback and possible an x pipe through slp so i can be street legal. i think slp is the way to go. good luck with ure combination.

Thanks Orange04Boss. I think, when the money gets here, that I might just do the whole SLP setup, sans headers. Can't really afford those, like you were saying - just too expensive! I've heard Mustangs have pretty good stock exhaust manifolds, anyway.

Thanks for the input! Anyone else's info welcome also. The more I can learn, the better, the possibly the more dangerous I can become, heh.

A cat-back system will offer 2.5" tubing instead of factory 2.25" and also higher flow mufflers. It should be designed and fabricated for improved flow, exhaust scavenging, and sound.

The Dynomax 2.5" cat-back system with ultraflow mufflers dyno tested 4.2 rwhp. A modest but decent gain, but most of the improvements are in the mid-pipe. My cat-back system provided decent performance gains and sound quality, but nothing earth shattering.
