Should..could...ought to...fact is the magic 300 mark takes a little more than a set of AFR/Eddy/TW..etc heads and a alpha cam on a mild compression 302/306. Fact is it takes a well matched set of components and an excellent state of tune to get there. I've seen tw setups put down low 280's and well matched GT40 iron combo's reach 300. Don't get caught up in the sales pitches of aftermarket companies...you might be disapointed.

Not always the case...I've seen several AFR/FTI/RPM combos fall under the mark...again it really comes down to the design of the cam combined with the other supporting parts, how well they work together and as or more important...the tune.

My AFR/FTI/Cobra intake 302 made 311 rwhp SAE on the dyno before a CAI, and 2.5" catback. I'll bet it made right at or damn near 320 rwhp afterward.

GTOReturns, your 18% is closer to what an automatic loses than to what a T5. 185 rwhp is a bit on the shy side of what most 5.0s made bone-stock. I've personally seen 5 speeds baseline between 190rwhp and 205rwhp. The general rule of thumb is 15%.

However, the reason I'm teasing you is because an 18% loss from 350hp is less than 300 rwhp by a good margin. 18% of 350hp is 63hp, and 63 from 350 is 287rwhp.

Fastdriver..excellent results, but again the result of a the correct cam for the supporting cast of parts and obviously a nicely tuned motor. Very few people take the time to find out what works and are often disapointed when the final results don't meet their expectations. They tend to purchase the 'names' that they hear most often over researching proven combo's or that sooo easy call to companies like FTI and listen to what he has to say.

In my case I read...I searched...I listened...I looked at my budget...few months later I purchased...and my dyno session ended with 316/344...simple decent proven parts that work together, none of which are considered among the top components...not the heads...not the OTS cam..and certainly not the intake.

You make it sound like not everyone is able to do such a thing.Dude, its not rocket science! I new nothing about 5.0's till I came to this web site.A set of AFRs and a good intake is gonna get you real close to 300RWHP. Theres no mystery cam for a 5.0 that is gonna give you 75hp!! Just get a decent cam to match what you have and your there! So dont sit there and tell me "WELLLLLL,maybe and maybe not!
Its an old world push rod motor thats been out for 21 years. Theres many,MANY proven parts out there too make a measely 300RWHP!!

I never under estimated your knowledge. You just make it sound so scientific to reach 300RWHP. 400RWHP would be a more indept thread. But in todays day and age getting 300RWHP out of a 5.0 is not a big deal.

306, forged slugs Eddy rpm small valve heads cleaned up on the exhaust side, comp XE270HR-12, Typhoon intake, scorpion 1.6rr's, pro-m bullet and 24 pounders, mac LT's and all the usual bolt-ons...and a shiny part here and there. Like I said not all the big name parts but as I indicated before, decent numbers IMO, not only peak, but average HP and TQ over the pulls as well( dyno sheets during my SCT tune can be found in my sig). I was criticized for stating how difficult it is to acheive this magic 300 number....however if you read back you will notice what was actually stated. In my previous statement I indicated achieving good numbers is all about combining parts that work TOGETHER..to create power, combined with a good state of tune you will achieve much higher numbers than the ones who simply pick parts based on brand names. When you combine parts like AFR heads with midrange cams like the E and combine that with a mid rpm intake cobra you can't expect exceptional peak numbers...that's not what you're going to get.

D-man is right for most people trying to get 300RWHP is hard. this is because if you don't have a cam to match the intake or heads or even both then you will never reach that goal. you need to read alot more about getting to the 300 RWHP mark and then you can dog on D-man but until then don't he is abosutley right. As some people might break the goal with many different setups it is usally pretty hard to make 300RWHP

D-man im with you i have been learning about 5.0 motors since i was about 10 (about 7 years now) and have learned from people at many mustang shops and from people over at corral and even you. but i guess we all have to learn something new at some time

LOL,,never said he was wrong.AFR's and a good intake with cam to match them will net you the 300 mark. Mix matching parts off the shelf is a crap shoot. Re-read what I said.Reaching 300RWHP is not the hardest thing to do these days!!

300 rwhp isn't hard if you know what you're doing. AFRs are a great start. With all the bolt-ons, a nice intake and a good custom cam, it's pretty straight forward. I was 18 when I started building that project. I had no prior experience, but I did do my research and took great advice from guys like Ed Curtis.

Hate to be stirr it up again...but... I'm glad you've learned all about what 'stangnet' has to offer, it's a great tool. However I question what you have actually 'accomplished' in terms of not just purchasing, but installing and tuning? I question what experience you have with various products (major and mid level names...ie..various cams, intakes, heads) and what you've learned from your hands on experience? I question how many hours you've spend either or at the chasis dyno, or track SEEING how these products perform? What kind of numbers they actually put down..not ACCORDING to the net..but actually put down in the real world.

I'm sorry to have to burst your stangnet myths bubble, but in the real world it's a little harder to not only get these cars running right half the time, but it takes a good amount of skill (and often money) to put together a solid performing car...be it N/A or boosted. the reason we put the tag on the 300 number is because for us smaller displacement N/A guys who've done it...we know what the magazines and internet don't tell you...like I said before, it takes more than just a good head, a good cam, a good intake...etc it takes all these parts to be compatible in the same power range and again once you have all the right parts I'm willing to bet you'll find even then it will likely get a person with some experience or dyno time to maximize it.

Your hi-ness? May I speak? All these articles in the 2-3 different 5.0 mags are they all fiction? Do they not tell the truth about anything? Hmmm, finding parts that compliment each other/make power in the same rpm range? HUH! What a concept? Well, excuse me if Ive sinned but Ive bought parts off of T-Moss and Thumper. Grilled them with questions and advice about engine that you are far superior in knowledge and experiance with! Been here for 3 years at SN.Have around 3000 posts. But was banned so now this 150 count is stuck with me.Ive listen and argued with Daggar,JRRitcher(spelling) Hissin 50,Michael yuont Rick91GT and a few others.Ive had my 5.0 for 3 years. Ive gone 13.8 with the only engine mod being a T-Moss intake, and its an AOD car. Im sorry Im not of your greatness and far superior being in the 5.0 world, but this is a free forum and Im aloud to vouice my opinion just like you!

Son I've not stated your opinion is not welcome...just putting mine out there...I appreciate the "greatness" reference but Daggar usually likes to reserve that title for himself . I'm sure you have some background in the 5.0 world, I am just indicating you might not want to believe everything you read. Like everything in life, nothing is as easy as it seems.
Thank you for your kind words
