Best intake manifold

Check the questions and fact sheet sticky at the top of this page. That will give you all the flow #s on the intakes. Having that MAC CIA wont really matter regardelss of what intake you go w/ b/c they dont add any power to begin with.
 
I'll stick in a vote for my GT40. Its ported, but even before that it gave me a good improvement in power with few other mods. It seems to keep a pretty decent power band as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Eddy, either. Track times and dyno numbers have proven that one.
 
Prolly want my car idling around the 1000-1500 range.

Well when I do get my car the first thing I will be doing is repairs. Then I will be getting CAI, 2chamber flows (pro dumps), o/r h-pipe, 3.73's, performance chip, headers, cam, and then we will go from there...

btw it will be my daily driver
 
Hey randomjoker, you building a Honda or a Mustang? We only have one cam in our car. My vote for the intake would be a Trick Flow Street Heat. I don't think an intake manifold controls where your car idles at; not nearly as much as your cam does. A cold air intake isn't really worth any power, but if you're going to get one try eBay. For $30 you can get the same thing as the Mac or BBK ones. A performance chip also won't do anything for you with so few mods, wait until you do some serious work to the car.

Your right it doesn't control where the car idles at, but it does matter what your car is idling at when buying the correct intake manifold.

So scratch the performance chip till later..

OK, if the car is stock and you are not planning to upgrade the internals to handle 6500+rpm shifts, then get the edelbrock performer. Its is tried and true and you WILL see a gain with it on a stock headed, stock cammed car. This is only MY opinion.... but from what I've seen in terms of gains I don't care much for the cobra intake, it can make decent power but for a gain in itself the performer seems to beat it. I can't comment on the TF stuff because to the best of y knowledge no one has put it on a stock car and reported the results as to what gains on the track or dyno they saw with it. Many run it on H/C/I cars but few with the stock H/C. If it was my car there is no doubt I'd put the edelbrock performer on there. If when you get out of school you can afford to go crazy with a hgih rpm screamer, all you have to do is swap out the upper intake to an rpm or sell the e-brock and get somehting along the lines of the holley, or the TF track heat.

JFYI- I ran 13.83 at 98.55mph in my 'vert with the following:
edelbrock performer intake
65mm t-body
shorty headers
offroad x
flowmaster mufflers in the stock cat back
3.73's
nitto DR's
ASP pulleys
14* timing

The car weighed around 3750lbs then with me.


I used to think the saleen/vortech was a good one, but I have never seen any reults to back it up. they are normally a fortune even when used. For the money there are much better alternatives. It shares the same lower principle as the holley.... the 302 truck lower.

Don't underestimate the Cobra. It's been documented to make 280-290 RWHP right out of the box with the right combination of cam and heads. On a stock headed/cammed motor, I wouldn't expct more than a couple HP average difference (edit: between the Cobra and Performer) and that could swing either way depending on the individual casting.

By the way (don't respond as this is not a high jack), for you guys who have been asking about the flow of my lower intake - Greg at XSR Cylinder Heads in South Carolina flowed one of my lowers on a SF-600 @ 28" without a clay inlet and got 195 cfm average flow. We are getting a stock lower and maybe a stock upper for him to test. Here is Greg's report:

"I flowed it today. Flowed each runner @28"s, with no clay. Add clay to radius the air, and usually raises the #'s 10-15cfm.

Tom, I never knock on the cobra as it is decent, and can be made even better with some massaging, but on stock headed cars I have seen where the cobra has not made any improvement in 1/4 times but I have never seen that with the eddy. I know this isn't the best way to judge it, but this does seem to occur frequently enough for me to notice.

Those are decent flow numbers, you can see how the distibutor location caused dog legged runners in #1 and 5 and hence the variance in flow of those compared to the other ports. #7 and #8 are pretty well matched to the others which is something you don't always see.
