What's the best off the shelf cam for a N/A 302. I want one that will make me a good amount of horsepower and I want good midrange power. AKA not all the power at 7000rpms. Don't say FTI cam cause I'm not sure of my combo yet and I dont want to get one custom made that wont suit my combo later. Also, can you breifly describe what is needed to put it in. Thanks.

Right now they're stock, but I'm probably going to go with the edelbrock new and improved ones with 1.90intake and 1.60exhaust valves.

I personally like the Steeda #19 Valve Lift Intake w/1.6 rockers-.480, Valve Lift Exhaust w/1.6 rockers-.480, Duration Intake (at .050)-220, Duration Exhaust (at .050) w/1.6 rockers-226, Lobe Center-115 some people have made good hp with it and it's emissions legal. Also the Crower 15511, Valve Lift Intake w/1.6 rockers-.468, Valve Lift Exhaust w/1.6 rockers-.486, Duration Intake (at .050)-218, Duration Exhaust (at .050)-224, Lobe Center-114, Emission Legal-Yes is pretty good as well look in the FAQ section up top and see what some of the user here have done and what hp they made that can give you a better idea on what to go with.

Want an off the shelf cam and your gonna be using the new edelbrocks huh? Use a comp 270xe cam with a 1.7 rocker. I recommend this ebcause my friend is making very good numbers with this set up. His only differences from you would be a fresh 306 shortblock with about 10.5:1 compression and some slight bowl work on the heads. I'll guess he'd be making 15-20hp more than you. He made 323hp/348tq and thats still with shorty headers!!!! LT's would make more!

Crane 2031, Valve Lift Intake w/1.7 rockers-.513, Valve Lift Exhaust w/1.7 rockers-.529, Duration Intake (at .050)-214, Duration Exhaust (at .050)-220, Lobe Center-112, Emissions Legal-Yes I don't know what the lift would be with 1.6 RR but I have heard people who have had good success with this cam. If I remember correctly a guy from corral said his car felt really strong up to 6,000 and had minimal idling issues. One user here called venomsvt made 315 HP / 343 TQ his combo is as followed 306 CI, Forged Pistons, TFS TW Heads, TFS TrackHeat Intake, Crane 2031 Cam, FMS 65mm TB, Pro-M 75mm MAF, MAC CAI, BBK LT Headers, BBK Shorty H, 2 Chamber Flowmaster Catback, 255LPH FP, Kirban AFPR, BBK Underdrives, Autologic Chip By LaRocca's Performance, Steeda Tri-ax, SPEC Stage 2 Clutch, Steeda 3 PC Clutch Kit, FMS Alum D/S, FMS 3.73, SVO Girdle, Maximum Motorsports: C/C plates, LCA'S, Alum Rack Bushings, Subframe Connectors, Panhard Bar, Tokico Illumina 5-Way, H&R springs, Powerslot Rotors, SS Braided Lines, Flaming River Steering Shaft.

I dont have money for heads yet due to my college lifestyle and the performance bug is biting my ass real hard. I'm thinkin the cam will give me a little extra boost and will make my heads investment that much better. Also, I've seen what 95Snoozer is doing with stock heads and a cam and it's making my mouth water.

Keep in mind that if you cam it now, you will probably lose power until you finish the combo. A good cam will raise the power band, where the E7's don't breathe well. The stock HO cam is actually a decent cam, and it does a good job of putting the powerband where it needs to be -- low down.

And with all due respect to 95snoozer, make sure you have the same goals as he does before making your decision based on his results. His car has been lightened significantly, which reduces the need for low-end grunt. And he is almost entirely focused on how it does at the track, with no regards to street performance. Different goals perhaps, from yours.

Maybe I should wait for a cam then if it's going to hurt my performance right now. What else can I get right now that will give me more grunt? I dont have that much money right now so heads are not an option.

Maybe you should just save your money and have a good time at college. Or work your ass off when you come back home on breaks. I know that's what I'll be doing.

No thanks...

This is the best time I've had my whole life. Well except for the 18 credits I'm taking this semester....that kinda sucks.

you're not going to lose power, dont give out bogus info

edit: also snoozer only has an e-cam so I'm sure his power band is just fine
