Well lemme ask this question. Where do the stock heads flow best? What's its major Powerband. Because most of the cams I'm lookin at make most of their horsepower between 2500 and 6000.

just a quick "dont get it" tip. dont get an e-cam. my 95 hates it and i want to rip that b*tch out and send it to hell. the power band is small and lowend/highend power is crap. i have heard great things about the steeda #19 cam but have not experienced it. good luck with your search

I don't race dynos, thanks. Some people have a fixation on peak horsepower, I just don't get it.

You know, subscribing to the totality of what someone writes always helps one to comprehend and concatenate all subjects or topics addressed.

I, for one don't think you are on the same planet as some other folks that have posted in this viewing.

Re-read all statements. People went into much more detail about where power would be lost, have this fellow put a camshaft into his stock headed motor. They went into much further detail than your single adjective describing someones advice as "bogus".

The language we speak is dynamic, and the words are present. It's now your job to interpret them correctly; something that you did not seem to do too well the first time around.

What's the best off the shelf cam for a N/A 302. Also, can you breifly describe what is needed to put it in. Thanks.

I won't give you the install details but let me tell you that it is a good bit of work and I would do the cam with the heads.

Doing it all at the same time will mean you don't have to tear down twice on some stuff and you don't have to buy stuff like gaskets twice.

I would give a lot of thought about what you want from your combo cause the heads & cam kinda need to be matched for what you want.

After the cam & heads, all the other minor stuff like tb, maf, headers, and such can be added or if you have some of those items now and you decide some of them won't work well with your plans you can exchange them.

You will then have the major parts (HCI) to build around but that is just kinda how I see it.

blah blah blah

all the guy said was he would lose power...

Keep in mind that if you cam it now, you will probably lose power until you finish the combo. A good cam will raise the power band, where the E7's don't breathe well. The stock HO cam is actually a decent cam, and it does a good job of putting the powerband where it needs to be -- low down.

"you will lose power, E7's suck up top, stock HO cam is good...."

thats what he said, and its not true...wtf do you want me to say? my friend is trapping 106 with an E cam and stock heads....he must have lost a ton of power with that E cam...

Oh no. Another "my friend" post.

I've discovered that the key to a good reader is comprehending more than just what's on the page. With that said, I'll start my English 101 lesson dealing with comprehension.

At first, yes, he did say in general terms that he would probably loose power. However, unlike yourself, he elaborated much further. The first thing one must ask themself is, "WHERE in the powerband will you lose power?"

There are two indications of WHERE he is talking about in the following sentences. He says that a "good cam will raise the power band, where the E7's don't breathe well." This indicates to me that he's saying the E7's do good on the bottom end. And since you know so much, you know that when the power band is raised, however much more RPM you gain up top, you lose on the bottom end.

In the very next sentence he goes on to say "......putting the powerband where it needs to be -- low down." This again, screams that with another camshaft, he will more likely than not, loose bottom end power.

All of us are reading the same stuff, right?

nah, what i read was you'll lose power, period...because the cam moves the power band up, but the heads dont flow up there, so you wont get anymore top end power...plus you'll be losing bottom end. he never did say you'd just be losing power at the top or bottom.

I agree you'll lose some low end power...but the car will go faster because of what you gained up top. maybe i'll just have to buy a freakin cam and dyno test it to prove my point

personally, I really like the Comp Cams Xtreme Energy line, they are great street/strip cams, along with a few of the Trick Flow cams

Yep.

As for losing power with an aftermarket power, I mean you will lose overall under the curve. You can get some at the top, but what you lose on the bottom will more than compensate. In some highly specific situations maybe you benefit from the cam. For 99.999% of the people in this forum, however, that does not apply and getting a cam will only slow them down. Tailor the advice to the audience, do not nitpick.

Cam types aside. None of that matter because the stock valve springs absolutly suck, so putting in any cam with decent lift is gonna cause valve float. I dont think its worth it to intall the cam just to run into spring bind and valve float. Wait for the new heads. Our stock Valve springs are very weak.
