best radar detector

Mike, when I read this thread I thought of you and your machine. I am going to start looking for me a Volvo too. Before I ever heard of you I would see a Volvo on the street and think to myself its the opposite of a mustang. It represents safety and sensability to the general population. If you could somehow make it smoke out of that one pipe like a diesel model you would really have them fooled. I get compliments on my stang from the younger generations. I bet you dont get that unless the hood is up.

Actually, the younger gens seem to like it even before the hood is up. Course, the fact that it's about 2" lower than stock, with the wheelweels all stuffed full of wheel and tire helps. They like it enough to walk up, and then they really wig out when they look under the hood.

You'd be surprised. More often than not, it's the older (hot rod/street rod/muscle car) generation that either walks right by (cause it's a 'damn Volvo'), or actually looks under the hood and when they don't see a carb, they think it must be the Volvo engine. 'Course, there's usually one of 'em that figures it out, breaks into a big grin and says to his buddy (who's already started to walk away) "Hey, come back for a second, you ain't gonna believe this!"

And c'mon now Jerry - we all know the really good running diesels don't smoke at all.

Hey, better to find something than get a moving violation right. I mean if your going to get something, get one that doesn't raise your insurance. Speeding tickets do ! But he still has to have a valid reason to pull you over. And unless they are illegal, and he has to prove you have it, let them get pissed off. They don't play fair anymore. I saw (were I used to live) under cover car pulling people over. I had a blue Dakota cut me off. I was pissed 'til I saw the hard cover raise up and expose lights in the bed. Fight fire with fire.

I have a phazer, which is similar and also from Rocky Mountain Radar; it seems to work well. I've also been pulled over more than once w/ a detector on the windshield and didn't get a ticket...all cops are different though. No matter what people say, I do think it does an efficient job of Jamming the police radar because I know i've passed cops speeding before and they didn't turn on the cherries. I paid $200 for it 2 years ago and it also picks up cops from a long distance. However, like many have said, just because you run a radar DOESN'T MEAN YOU STILL DON'T HAVE TO LOOK FOR COPS! The best defense is to drive smart, keep an eye out, and run a good detector

NOTE: I think all types of jammers (passive and active) are illegal in California.

Interestingly enough, my girlfriend just came over and gave me my christmas present...

Another thing i do to avoid tickets is not to drive the stang at night. Driving through a town which is quiet in a loud car at like midnight when the cops have nothing else to do usually spells trouble. Granted i have another car to drive which makes this easier.

I think they're illegal in only 4 states. Nebraska is one of them.

I remember reading on radartest that passive jammers like the phazer do absolutely nothing (scientifically impossible) Ive been scurred to buy one ever since reading that :/

i definately want to get something b/c i lost my license for speeding bout a month ago. f-ing sucks. sometimes you just cant see a cop in time and the laser/radar detectors must help somewhat if there is anyone in front of you. im not so sure about the jammers, but if they do work i would pay the extra money, cuz if they dont have proof on the gun they cant do jack about you speeding. so what if they pull you over anyway, what are they gonna give me a ticket for? any tint is legal right now in atl. even the smallest heads up is better than losing you license or a hefty fine.

how the hell do you loose you liscense for just speeding? was it like 120mph? lol

Okay, according to one of my teachers... in Virginia, if you posess (read: even in the trunk) a radar detector, you are guilty under their "drug possesion" laws. That got passed as a rider on a drug bill when they said drug runners use them to avoid the cops.

If you even stop at a rest stop in virginia they will flashlight your car while you pee and look for the detector. If they don't find it they will try to get you to let them search the car. Or come up with some "probable cause" my favorite line of lawyer BS. Total A**Holes.

Secondly, any device that actively emmits radio waves (radar) for the purpose of jamming radar is illegal or too weak to be of value due to FCC (more corrupt than the whole govt.) regulations. You have to be licensed to operate in almost all frequency ranges. Also, if you live near an airport the FAA can come after you too. Especially in these more sensitive times post 9/11 when everything from airports to chewing gum wrappers is a matter of national security.

Of course, they have to catch you first

And as far as jamming devices go, their a fedral offense of some sort (FCC), and I bet that includes laser jamming to.

I figure I'll let you guys know this...I'm a State Police Officer in PA and when I sit and radar, I usually have my radar gun off until I want to radar, that way I can shoot it right at you, with or without a radar detector and catch you. Of course, I am biased...5.0's, don't usually "catch" my eye as much as, say...ricers....AHEM!

That's correct. There is not a SINGLE laser/radar jammer on the market that does anything more productive than make cute little beeping noises and lights. Police radar guns are not fooled by these silly devices and no degree of ranting and raving to the contrary will change that. lol Maybe I'll sit around this weekend to design and build that EM pulse cannon I've always dreamed about. If I get this thing done and are passing through your town, you'll know that some cop just shot a radar gun at me when the lights for the whole city go down. lol

Seriously though, in all practicallity to jam their radar you would have to be emmitting a radar frequency equal to theirs of equal or greater power back at them all the time. a device that came on when it sensed the radar would be too slow. Radio waves move just shy of the speed of light through air, and the combined propogation delays of the circuitry would take too long to begin oscillating. And transmitting all the time would suk, not only would this screw up your detector, you would set off everyone elses too.

Another way I thought of last night would be to send and infinite number of negative harmonics thus turning their recieved pulse into a flat dc level (rendering it useless). This should leave the detectors alone and only affect the transmitters but, who knows, I am no engineer. Of course, both would be impractical, the second would be dam near imposible. Just a thought though.

A third and definitly most interesting option would be to rework all the front and rear body work so it is all curvey. Make new panels out of carbon fiber to avoid the radar, and paint it flat black to make the laser have a harder time. Short of stealing radar absorbant paint fromt the Air Force, that is your best bet. Some one should definitly do this. I might buy that body kit.

The curvy bodywork wouldn;t work either, if you've ever looked at the f-117 you see it has a million polygonal shapped sides redirecting the radar away from the origonating source. Not only would you have to do this PLUS put the air forces paint on you car but you would also need all of your glass to redirect the radar as well, then you wouldn't be able to see out of it.

Sure it would, havn't you ever seen the B-2 that thing is huge and has a smaller radar cross section than the F-117. It all lies in the equation the russians came up with that we used to develop stealth. The reason the F-117 is polygonal (spelling) is because in the seventies and eighties when the skunkworks was developing the technology as a part of the "HaveBlue" project, they didn't have the computer power to deal with the curves. They are much more math intensive.

As for the glass you can coat it with gold like the stealth has and it will do the same thing. They can see out of it just fine

Of course all of this is irrelevant since it was a joke to begin with.
