Best Radar Detector?

Yea, the best way to not get a speeding ticket is Not Speed! You think these guys are not hip to the latest technology. Let me put it this way, V.A. made them legal but, for some reason NC has not. They have figured a way around them. First, your radar detector can't pick up whats not on. You can turn the laser and or radar off and on with the quickness, by then, its too late. Secondly, all they need is a distance between two points and each state has them marked differently or not at all. Third, if your radar is making a hit, thats b/c he or she wants you to slow down, not neccesarily get a ticket, sometimes cops don't like writing tickets, go figure. Here they are pros, and if they want to catch you speeding, they will. Does your radar pick up helicopters, nope, and they can't pick up air planes either! You know GPS tells how fast your driving right, what makes you think police technology dosn't use your GPS against you!

Just gotta remember, a radar detector is a tool, not a guarantee you wont get caught. Even the V1 is not gonna do much with laser, once hit you are hit, no way around it.

Not true at all. It's the other way around. VA and DC are the only states that they are illegal in. They are completely legal in NC. Radar Detector Laws: Are radar detectors legal in my state? Radar Jammer Laws, Radar Scrambler Laws

Although I personally know several NC SHP officers and most of them don't use radar; they use laser. So it doesn't really matter if you have a radar detector or not.

I have radar/laser detectors for whatever good they can do for me, not because I consider them completely effective. To me they are like insurance. Would it be wise to drive uninsured because your damage might not meet the deductible or because the insurance payment for your totaled vehicle is much less than you have in it? If so, I have been wasting money on auto insurance for the past 32 years due to the fact that I have had no accidents during that time. Nor have I been ticketed--even when stopped once with my detector visible had the officer chosen to shine his light on my windshield. And, I know of at least one officer of the law that had a detector stolen from his private vehicle. That sounds like an endorsement to me.

The insurance thing is flawed. I can't control accidents but I can control my speed... When you speed you CHOOSE to speed. You don't go out the door and go, "I wonder whose car can I total today?" What if insurance didn't have acts of god and just said you were at fault and raised your rates? I have insurance for things I can't control. Same goes for life insurance. You know one day you're going to die, but when? So should you wait until you're 60 to get it or get it now?

Cops speed too in their personal vehicles. They drink and drive too. No one is perfect, I don't see that as an endorsement...

Yea, thats what I really meant to post, must have bramage my dain, and youre right, once they hit that laser trigger, its a wrap!!!! Before ya, slow down to the speed limit, its already logged!!

Kind of depends on what you value more...
The V1 is said to false a lot more than the escorts. I use the Escort and I have been alerted to radar in time. I use the frequency counter display to help sort out false alerts and multiple targets. In my area, if there is a Ka alert at 34.5Ghz or higher its LEO. Lower its something else. Today there was a hit on 34.716 and another on 34.667. And yes, there were two cruisers out.
