Best Short Throw?

I'm wondering what everyone's opinion on the absolute BEST short throw shifter for a T-5 is?

I know T-5 isn't a powerhouse tranny, and isn't going to hold up very long taking a beating and ripping gears.

I plan on switching to a T-56/TKO 600 after I get my suspension where I want it and decide exactly which direction I'm going with my motor.

But I really would like a shifter for now for this T-5 that is worth getting.
I grabbed a cheap Econoshift Short Throw from LMR for $70 on my last fox (you get what you pay for, i know. but i was 18 and towards the end of my budget at that point).
It was definately better than stock but still not what I was looking for.

From what I've heard so far, it's the Steeda Tri-Ax.

Opinions?

i like the tri-ax handle on all shifters the best. Now as far as the best complete package i would thing MGW. But I liked my Pro 5.0 I had (with trix handle) and the 50 dollar ebay shifter was not bad with the triax handle .

I really love the look and feel of a Hurst white ball shifter handle.
Buuuutttt everyone and their brother has one it seems.
whatever shifter I end up going with, I'm thinking of making my own custom handle to put that personal touch on it.

Now when you say best complete package, are you including the handle that MGM provides, or just the shifter package itself?

What does the Hurst white shifter knob have to do with the actual short throw shifter component? This type of question is purely opinion, basically if you go with one of the many popular units you should be satisfied...

it has nothing to do with it. S&B just commented on how he like the Tri-Ax handle the best, and I just stated I really liked the hurst white ball knob.

And i see in your sig you have a MGW. How's that working for ya?

Which is why i just can't bring myself to buy one. I got a used Pro 5.0 off eBay years ago for my 3550 for $50 and i have a custom made handle on it...LOVE it. I'm sure the MGW is a sweet shifter, but that's way too much money for something like that IMO.

thats why I have the 50 dollar ebay one, got one for my 02 gt a couple years ago and loved it as much as the pro 5.0 so now I will try the ebay one out. If you look at the factory shifter compared to any aftermarket they are all going to be much beefier than the factory stamped piece. I like my shifter kinda notchy with a "click" when im in gear.

I like mine the same way, but with a really short throw. I drove a freinds 2010 GT and really liked his factory shifter, besides the fact it made the one i had in my fox feel like at the time haha

Absolutely...it gives me a reassuring satisfaction that it's IN gear, not just slipping a wet noddle into a slot (what did i just say? lol)

Oh and i've also driven a Tri-ax...they're a pretty nice shifter too. Felt pretty similar to my Pro 5.0.

I've been running Tri-Ax's for years and love them. In my convertible with the 03 seats, I'd always had a problem reaching 3rd and 5th without moving my shoulder off the seat. I tried several different handles and then my wife got me the MGW adjustable handle for christmas this year. It is fully adustable: in/out, up/down, left/right. AND it's an incredibly high quality piece for a very reasonable price. I like it so much that I'm going to get one for my Saleen soon.

As far as the original question goes, anything is better than the original shifter. Just find a price point and buy what you can afford. I don't know if they still do it, but 50Resto used to sell the Tri-Ax for $179 with a free Bullitt shift knob. I bought my last one that way and sold the knob on Craigslist for $25. Plus, now 50Resto has free shipping on everything.

I used to use a simple straight up and down arm like the Pro 5.0 comes with, but i got tired of reaching so far to hit 3rd and 5th. My buddy made my arm for me, it's modeled after the Tri-Ax but with more reach backwards and the top section where the ball screws on is angled a few more degrees to the left and back. It makes up shifts so much easier. If any of you have the means to make your own shift arm, i highly recommend it. Nothing fits better than custom.

I haven't thought about making a custom arm. Might have to look into it. That MGW with full adjustability sounds nice though. But i definately want to make my own shifter handle. Have a buddy that has access to CNC machining equipment and thinking of a few designs now.
