I have stock everything in terms of suspension, gonna get new KYB struts and shocks though first (they are worn out). Anyway, I was wondering what tire size would be best for front and rear on a 17X8.5 rim? I talked to someone who said 255 minimum...thanks for your time. just interested in what u guys think

255 is a perfect fit on a 9" rim.

245 would be the perfect fit for the 8.5" im guessing. i wouldn't go any bigger then a 265/275 on it though.

The stock size on a 17x8 wheel is 245/45/17 so I'm guessing 255/45/17 or 255/40/17 would be fine for 17x8.5

my first thought was... AS BIG AS WILL FIT! i just like huge rear tires. can't stand the look of same width front to rear on a rear drive or all wheel drive car. i have 275's on the rear of my 86 and they just look too small. will hopefully be stepping to 315's in a few weeks.
255 is simply too small for a 9 inch wheel. go with 265's if you're running and 8.5 inch wheel. just make sure the overall height of the front and rear are similar if it's an abs car.
i work with Porsche's all day and that company pays extremely close attention to tire sizes. i've learned a lot from those crazy krauts(i'm one too).
