Best tires for a 01 GT

I have a 2001 GT 5 speed it has about 40000 miles on it. i have the following mods on it, Mac cold air, steeda cat back so as you can see its pretty much stock. my tires are still the original (pretty much slicks now). anyway I dont want to replace it with the goodyears it came with. Can anyone recommend a good tire for moderate driving (highway to work) and good for performance and price any ideas are greatly appriciated.

I had some Dunlop SP 5000's on my old 98 GT and I loved them. They are a good all around tire.

http://www.savastire.com/wheels_tires/nitto_tires.htm Nitto's are awesome tires but if your looking for more tire life then check out the others they have. Goodyear F1 eagles or something are pretty good, there are lots, basicly depends on whats most important, traction or tire life. I chose traction, 315x35x17 Nitto555r Drag Radials! yah buddy!

Nitto NT555's!!!! I love mine!! they are great tires, but i have to rotate them every 3k miles so i can get some decent tread life outta them!!! The F1 tires are good too, but i hear they catch small pebbles and rocks and throw them behind the tires and screw up the paint on the car. I like them a lot and when I was shopping for new tires last summer, i was torn between the F1s and the Nittos. I went Nitto since it is one of the best performance tires and it wont throw rocks up!!

No, i wish factories could hold a 315 wide tire! should on a muscle car, but anyways they are 17x9 up front and 17x10.5 in the rear. Got the Chrome 95 Cobra R's and i love them everytime i see them, which is everyday!

i'll recommend the sp 5000's also mainly because they are all season and will work in a fews inchs of snow. they are no substitute for a real snow tire but they will get you home if you know what i mean.

i've run the potenza's and they were good also but did not like the ride and feel dead stop launch traction could have been better.

i run yoko es 100's which i like alot but are a summer tire (i live in fl.) so they may not be right for you.

I seriously considered the Eagle F1 GS-D3. I think they are the best non- all weather tire, but I'm going with the Nittos due to the cost difference. You can find the Eagles for ~180 in stock size.

All the tires mentioned here are good tires. Depends on your budget and personal preference. I'm using nitto 555's and they perform just fine for me and so far they're wearing just fine.

I'm happy with my nitto's (see sig). But with high h/p any tire is going to lay rubber, when heavy on the pedal.

555's are the way to go for good traction make sure you rotate them on schedule though.

I recommend the Nitto 555s as mentioned above. I have also had good experience with the Futura brand sold by Pep Boys. I had them on my Nissan 300zx back in college.

A good place to order tires from is www.discounttiredirect.com. They offer free shipping on wheels and tires. I got my current setup from them which included 17X9 and 17X10.5 '03 Cobra replica wheels and 275/40/17 Nitto 555s for the front and 315/35/17 Nitto DRs for the back for $1,540 mounted, balanced, and shipped to my door. I sold my stock wheels and tires for $700 on Ebay, even though they had almost 10,000 miles on them.
