Ok, my brother is not very mechanically inclined and he was spending the weekend with us(16), i was letting him help me work on my car. Well I was in the process of bolting up the fuel rails etc, and was having him hang me the tools and bolts etc. he accidently dropped one of the little bolts that hold the fuel rail to the lower intake down the dist opening, i heard it hit the pan. I have tried to fish it out with a magnet etc... no luck. I guess i am gonna have to pull the oil pan off....... Will i have to pull the entire motor out, or can i just jack it up some loosen the motor mounts and get to it like this......

other ideas are welcome........ lol, ***** happens i guess

thanks in advance

Damn dude! I had the same problem. My friend dropped a nut for the fuel rails down there too. Luckily he was able to fish it out with a magnet. I'd say keep trying for a while. That's a lot easier than dropping the oil pan or yanking the motor.

But.......... FWIW, I just learned recently that you can drop the oil pan without removing the engine, might be something worth looking into.

Keven said what I'd do. With any luck, you can drain the oil, and it'll come out. If not, you may be able to "pull" it with a big magnet along the bottom of the oil pan, to the drain plug, and pull it out. Good luck with that, I hope you can get it out.

the bolt has a washer made into it,..... kinda roo big to come out the drain hole, i already drained the oil and tried it anyhow..... i appreciate the idea though.....

it has about a 5/8 washer on the backside of the actual head, but it won't come off it has a smaller hole than the threads themselves, i was examining the other to try and figure something out.....

keep 'em coming...... I thing i may be able to jack up the motor high enough by loosening the motor mounts anyhow... i am kinda piddling with it today but have somewhere to go.....tommorrow, i am pulling the pan one way or another..... Good time to put a one piece gasket back on don't you guys think?

Crap, I guess you may have to pull the pan off :(
Short of pulling the pan, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, if you can't fish it back out with one of those telescopic magnets.
