Im thinking of puting the ford racing shorty headers on my 04GT. I know that i will not get a huge power increase if any but i am looking for a little more of that low grumble when i idle and punch the gas. Will shorties do this for me or will i have to step up to LTs?
Dont want to do the LTs because you have to jack the motor up to put them in and then when it comes time to change the clutch you have to do the same.
Dont want to go with an X-pipe i know they put out more HP but i think they also sound raspy and ricey..(no offense to anyone with X-pipe) I'm looking for that american muscle sound not the Nascar sound
You are going to have to jack the engine up for the shorties also. Either way you are going to have to jack the motor up or drop the K member. For the pain in the ass that it is go with the long tubes and worry about the clutch when it comes up......or
by hooker or flowtech headers. Flowtech headers are about $280 out of summit for the long tubes....will need ceramic coating or a few coats of high temp paint but after that they are good. The passenger side is a two piece design so you can take out your tranny without having to remove a header. food for thought.
the tone does change with the shorties. but they are right about the install i've done both kinds; shorties & LT's, & the install is exactly the same if it were me i'd do LT's without question, but that's just me
