ok i love my B303 cam in my 5.0 and want something similar for my 466 big block. I want the idle quality of the b303 and power band in the cam for the 466. Setup on the 466 is:

-Edelbrock performer 460 intake
-Holley Street Avenger 770 cfm carb
-rebuilt ported and polished and milled heads
-milled deck height
-.030 overbore
-crack, pistons, rods, rings and lower end have less than 100 miles

Is there a difference in cam duration between a small block and big block?
Like will the big block take more duration to act like the small block with a B303 cam? I really want to have that B cam idle quality. I found a comp cam that has 224 duration on intake and exhaust just like the b cam but with a .519 lift, but will that have a lope to it at all, cause the next step up from that cam is 230 duration with like .530 lift which may be outside the powerband of that intake. Please make some suggestions. Thanks

O and im lookin at flat tappet hydraulic cams for this beast

a 224 duration cam in a 460 will have much milder manners than a 5.0 with a cam of that size. Theres a few reasons for this, the main is the difference in cubes. Another reason is stroke length (possibly bore, too). Let's say you have a 5.0 with a 3" stroke, it will have a real lope to it with that b cam in it. Now lets say you have the same amount of cubes, but with a longer stroke, 3.85, just like your 460; The cam will idle much more smooth and have much less of a lope to it.

Anyways, for the 460, I'm not sure if you could get that same kinda sound unless you go with a really big duration cam. for comp cams, I would think a magnum 292h or xe284 may come close to that sound.

I think roller cams might sound better though. . . can anyone back me up on this?
