Finally got a chance to work on my '86 Ranger 4x4 2.3 5 speed this weekend. Last weekend I had picked up a junkyard 2.3 motor out of an '87 mustang. Everything swapped over great, did it pretty quickly.

But..
I went to install the new pilot bearing in the mustang motor, It wouldn't fit. Mind you the motor was out of an automatic mustang.

This is the only thing holding up the project, very frustrating.

I have tried both Ranger and Mustang pilots niether will fit (too big for the bore on the crank). What should/can I do now? I need to get this truck going by wednesday, I'm "borrowing" the shop space.

Thanks for the info....

Is it just slightly too large, or is it way too large? If it looks like it should fit in, but doesn't, try Ponycar's idea first. I think I used a piece of 1/2" Nylon plate and a hammer to install the PB in my roller 302. That or it was aluminum plate, I forget. I used the plate as a pad so as to not wreck the bearing.
