bigger tires = more traction in corners??

alright i know its a dumb question, but if i switch from 225 to 245 or 275 tires will i notice a differance in cornering ability?:SNSign:

275s won'tfit on the front but yes they will help cornering a bit, wider foot print = more traction(in most cases)

mhm when we had the 205 on the we could take a corner at 65 but you could hear the tires slipping with the 245 we have now it wont start sliping till 85-90

we tried it on the on ramp to the free way

actually, MOB or someone else (on here) is running a 275 on all four. If I remember right they are on a 17 inch rim with a five lug swap.

I'm running the five lug swap that came on the car origonally, so should i run 245 up front and 275 out back? would i notice a differance going from 225 to 245 all around?

What size rim do you have?


Sometimes too wide of a tire for a rim can have a negative effect on handling. The bulge in the sidewall will try to roll over on itself in turns. That's why you should try to stay in the recommended tire/rim ratio.

In other words 275's on an 8" rim vs 275's on a 9" wheel....the 9" wheel will handle better in turns

Find a car with excessively fat rubber on it's rims and put your hip into it to rock the car side to side. SOmetimes the amount of movement you get will be extreme.


Depends on other factorys though like tire brand and so on.

Agreed, sometimes wider isn't better... Surely a 60 series sidewall doesn't help... but take that exact same tire (width, speed rating, manufacturer) and reduce the sidewall from 60 down to 45 and you get better cornering ability.

Also suspension plays a huge roll in the vehicles ability to stick to the road. IFS and IRS really can really help

Like they said, you are better off with a 255 on a 9" wide rim than 275 if you have a 8" rim maybe go 245. You will only get as much traction as the width of your wheel...

May want to check backspacing for the wheels, but my 275 fits in the front, cant tell you how the handling is though because I took my swaybar off so the car feels like its going to roll everytime I turn.

Im running 225/50/16 yokahama es100's on a 16 inch rim, but i was thinking about switching to a 17 inch rim
