biggest tire on pony rim?

i have 235 -55 -16's on my pony rims now......could i go with 245-50-16's without a problem?

Good point. Tire brands are like shoes, the actuall size can vary by the different manufacturers.

245/50R16 would be about as big as I would go. The rim can have more effect on the footprint than the tire itself. Going too large won't give any more traction, but will give less stability, will wear out faster, and won't ride as well. 245's fit very well.

There are 25.4 mm in one inch. A tire should be sized as close as possible to 2" wider than the wheel it's mounted to. Not the same width. Not ½" wider. Not 1" wider. Not 3" wider. Not 4" wider. Not 5" wider. Etc., etc.

10.5" wheel = 315 mm tire
10" wheel = 305 mm tire
9.5" wheel = 295 or 285 mm tire
9" wheel = 275 mm tire
8.5" wheel = 265 mm tire
8" wheel = 255 mm tire
7.5" wheel = 245 or 235 mm tire
7" wheel = 225 mm tire
6.5" wheel = 215 mm tire
6" wheel = 205 mm tire
5.5" wheel = 195 or 185 mm tire
5" wheel = 175 mm tire
4.5" wheel = 165 mm tire
4" wheel = 155 mm tire
3.5" wheel = 145 or 135 mm tire

"Pony" wheels are 16" x 7".

I have 245/50/16's in the rear with no problems. Some people might, but I'm not going any bigger than that.

i've ran 255 bfg dr's, just got 245's on today tho cause no 255's in stock at shop, DR's go bald too fast

I wouldnt recommend bigger than 245's especially if the car is lowered. The fronts will rub. What looks and works great is 245s in the back and a 225 in the front. The dunlop 225s fit the rim great and dont look small at all. Also I did run a 255 drag radial on the car and they provided traction for over a year and didnt have any rubbing problems. I didnt do much cornering in it so I couldnt tell you about that. But I know that too large of a tire creates an unstable tire wall which will roll and possible blow in a corner. The factory specifies 225 for a reason, but 245s look good. Just use a 50 series though because any larger of a wall looks gay, lol.

I've got 245/50/16 Dunlop SP's on mine all the way around and they only rub just a little at full cut. Still fit really well on the rim though and don't bulge. But I'm running the stock springs.

got 245/50/16 bridgestone potenza re 730's all around on my car. work great no rubbing what soever. i have ran 255/50 BFG drag radials and had no rubbing issues.

I run my 89 with 225-50-16's up front and 245-50-16 out back. I have coil overs on the front and lowered it to achieve a very slight rake. I have Motorsport C springs in the rear. I would not run any bigger than 225-50's up front and 245-50's out back if you are planning to lower it. Mine do not rub but they are close. If you have a 91 or up you might have a little more clearence up front because the strut towers are a little different.

I run 245, 45, 16 Falkens on the rear with no prob. I dont think that I could get much more under it due to the exhaust pipes.
