ok i have some 96 cobra wheels the 17 inch 5 spoke ones.
i was thinking about 245/45/17s but if i put some 1/4 inch wheel spacers on, whats the biggest i can fit? keep in mind i have 2.5 inch pipes that arnt going anywhere.
IMO the best looking tire for a 17x8 wheel on a Fox-Body is a 255/45-17. It's 26" tall and fills the wheel well real nice.
Spacers/adapters won't work. You need to switch to 5 lug. The backspacing on the wheels is already correct if you switht the rear axles out for a pair of Ranger 7.5" drivers side axles ('83-'92) and brake drums (direct swap). For the front those wheels might bolt up and work with the Lincoln Marc VII (non-abs) rotors or they may require the SN95 (more expensive, but better brakes).
Try searching about 5 lug swaps. Been covered many times in many threads. I recently did the Lincoln rotor/Ranger axle version of the swap. It's ridiculously EASY!!!
In that case, 255/45-17's all around so you can rotate them. 275/40-17's don't look right on the 17x8 size wheel IMO. But you could run them in the back. 255 is as wide in the front as is practical.
