Blasters ruined my Hood - URGH!

The sandblasters totally ruined my hood. There appears to be a huge diff in price between repro (150-200) and orginal tooling (400-500). How risky are the repros? Any suggestions on where to buy a repro if I can't find a decent original from a parts car? I am not going for a show car, just a nice driver but you can't get more visible than the hood. I am not sure what to do.

how did the blasters ruin your hood and why are they not liable?

I just bought a repo from NPD yesterday, should have it installed by the end of the week, if ya want to konw how it fits

I was considering buying a '67 Shelby hood from Mustangs Plus...Any good?

as with any fiberglass hood they will need to be finished to get them to fit and look perfect Mustang plus sells a quality product.

Haven't been able to go down that path yet. Just got it back and didn't notice when I picked it up (my dumb b/c was in a hurry - lesson learned).

They used too much pressure. The metal is bent severely inwards where ever the supporting structure underneath is not.

Problem is the owner said it might be risky but the blaster said it would be OK. I am going to call them Mon and see what I can work out but I am not optimistic. Its a small mom-pop monument shop. Will update when I know more.

If you are going to go the Shelby route, check with Branda. Mine came from there and went right on after the normal prep work. I would suggest getting the unit with the metal frame.

You really need to try and have some legal recourse with the people that blasted your hood. If they sand or bead blasted it and it warped the metal.....There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with their methods. Any way you can post pics? I do quality assurance work for welding, blasting, painting, software, electronics....if you can get some pics, I can tell you exactly what they did wrong and what to say to them.

I don't want to start an argument, but blasting body sheetmetal is always risky at best. The blasting process creates heat and heat warps sheetmetal. The only way I've heard to prevent this is low pressure and an experienced operator that keeps the hose moving. Personally, I've never seen any body parts that were succesfully done. Blasting is a good way to eliminate rust before attempting repairs from a small area. It can be done on areas like the engine bay or door jambs which are smaller and reinforced with lots of curves or stamped-in ribs to prevent such warpage. You learned a cheap lesson, a new hood is cheap compared to ruining the entire body by warping the roof.

DONT but fiberglass from Mustangs Plus. I bouth the Shelby deck from them. I didnt expect it to just bolt on an be perfect, but the quality was crap! All the fiberglass had chips in it around corners and the shipped it frieght when i could have easly been shipped UPS. So far i had to make an metal frame for it to get it back to being level. Its warped pretty bad. Same with the end caps, they have huge gaps at the bottom by the bumper.
