Looks like my #4 cylinder busted during an open track session. This was confirmed by a compression test by my shop.

So it looks like I'll be needing a new block. After doing a little bit of research, since money is also an issue, I had my eye on the:

DSS Pro Modular 5.0 Stroker short block. Any thoughts on that choice? I looked at MPH and VT engines but they were quite a bit higher. If money wasn't an option I would probably go with MPH. I wouldn't be running any more than 9-10 psi.

so the compression finally got you...well it lasted all summer atleast.

haha, yeah it sucks man. I made it through a few open track events and quarter mile runs. I guess WOT for almost 20 minutes straight a bunch of times is hard on the stock block. =) Well, I can't wait to see what a 5.0 stroker and blower cams will do running 9psi.

if you are going too run open track i would stay far away from strokers.. the rod ratio on the 4.6 is already poor. and stroking it will cause even more extreme angles and rod speed. for a open track car that might not be a good idea...

Thanks for the tip. If that's the case, I would defintely skip on the 302 stroker. What about blower cams? Any drawbacks to running those open track? BTW, I probably won't see any more than 9-10 psi at the most. I would think I would be in the 350-400 rwhp range.

Have you considered building your own short block, or is that completely out of the question?

I just finished mine and it wasn't nearly the work, or the expense that I thought it would be.

I would LOVE to do that but my conditions don't allow me to do that right now. Townhome with No garage, just carport :notnice: I guess I could turn my living room into a garage hahah.

BTW How long did it take you to finish your block. How many hours of labor?

If I would have gone steady on it, probably about 50hrs. Keep in mind though, that 40hrs of that was a spent porting and polishing my PI heads (by hand I might add….can you say carp tunnel) along with a complete valve job (gotta love owning your own valve grinding machine :) )....not to mention being meticulous about painting and detailing every little part. I've still got quite a bit of work ahead of me, as I'm currently mapping out the install of my blower, which will probably soak me for another 15hrs of my life. :(

Damn I hate my car! :bang:

What's "open track"?

Here are the videos I promised.

Note that the in-car video was my first run at that track ever so, I was still learning it. Just to get a perspective on the speed, when I cross the finish line area, I am hitting aroun 90-100 mph. btw, since I was running group 2, we are only allowed to pass on certain straightaways.

videos are around 11 MB each

I've been wanting to ask you if that blower was as loud as a cobra/lightning. Doesn't seem to be.
Those track vids look fun. Except where all those slower cars hold you up:mad: I'm not very patient when being competitive so i don't think it would be for me. It will be nice when you get forged and crank up the boost..passing some exotics will be worth the money spent :nice:

Yeah, I think it's quieter due to the fact the the intake manifold is covering it where the cobra blower is sitting on top of it. It's really fun when you find someone to play cat and mouse with at the track. I had a newer Porsche carrera following me last time. Once you get to level 3 and 4, the passing is very liberal. I already miss driving my car, it will be definitely be nice when I get forged and up my boost
