I blew a head gasket on the way to work today, luckily i was pulling in the parking lot as it happened. Also the check engine light came on the other day, got it checked out and it was the smog pump system, so while i have the heads off, i'm just gonna delete the smog system. Good idea or bad idea?? I've searched the forums and it seems like there isnt really anything bad that come from it, so i figured i would just go ahead and take it out. It seems to free up a little space also. What do you guys recommend on the brand of smog pump pulley delete to get?
thanks, clayton

I too am wondering this. One usually does not blow a HG under light load conditions (pulling into a parking lot).

Just take the whole smog system off and run a short belt, that's easiest and cheapest.

I dont have a damn clue. When i started it up that morning it blew a little smoke out but not bad. I'm just figuring it was on the verge all day or something and just let go then.

I have the Summit billet pulley. I like it.

The blown HG thing in a parking lot has me wondering, too.

So what code did you get that make you thing the smog system was at fault?

well took it apart today, and somehow the drivers side intake gasket was torn up on the front. It was torn between the first cylinder and water passage, which was making the water leak into the cylinder. I dont really see how this happened, I'd say it happened when i put the lowe intake on last time, the dizzy was still in and i angled the intake towards the front of the motor when i put it on. That is the only thing i can think of that would have caused it. seventy mach 1 i cant really remember what code it brought up but it had to do with the thermactic air system , which when i did a search on this forum i found out this was the smog system

I was also kinda wondering about the head gasket blowing at a low speed with no load on the car, but i guess this explains it lol
