wheres Spring Valley? mapquest shows one near SD and one near Placerville.

I have a 9" out of a 69 galaxy thats ready to be narrowed if you want to tub the stang. its 31 spline with open 2.73, but i have a friend in placerville with a 4.11 posi.

ill take $100 for the rear end, which has the drum plates and and shoes. ill be in placerville over the summer if you're in placerville. if youre in san diego, the furthest down ill deliver is in san luis obispo

if not, anyone reading this is welcome to it

Fox 8.8 is the right length, but cutting of the old brackets is a pain. I used 2 left axles from a ranger rear to make it 5 lug. Less than $200 in mine total.

All those who were asking about how strong the 8-inch is should make note of this. There were some people saying the 8-inch is good out to 450-500 hp. Everyone in the biz I've asked said at 350-375 you need to be thinking of a 9, and by the time you hit 400 fwhp you're asking for troble if you stay with the 8.

I was about to mention the same thing.

Next thread about "Help me decide, 8 or 9?", we should direct them to this one.
They get to see all the posts about disintegrating 8" rears...

I have blown several with a 302. (1 with a 460!)

Seems when you get in those threads and tell folks that they should spend their hard earned money on a 9", everyone comes out of the woodwork trying to convince them to spend a fortune on the great, underrated, maligned, etc... 8" rear.

My .02
Dave

BTW: Mustang rears to 1970 will bolt right in your car, you just need deeper backspaced rims to tuck the tires in.
Good luck.

Now that I have a bunch of new found power in the head swap, I bought a spare 8" center section that I can use in the case that I break one.

If I do manage to break my diff, I'll pop the spare in until I buy a 9". But if it doesn't break, than it doesn't break.

cheack this out:

that'll give you an idea for what to look for. If yoy notice the 66-77 Broncos have the same size rear end as the Versailles. But the Bronco rear you would need to weld on new spring perches. Broncos are 4x4 so you'd get a posi. Oh yeah, some broncos have 5x5.5 bolt pattern and larger center hub. Axles and drums would need to be redrilled and the hub machined down. I did just this. Mine came with a 4.11 and detroit locker. Good luck,

Bart

The other thing about Bronco and E/F series rears is that they are "Large bearing" 9s. These are much more robust than the small bearing 9s that passenger cars (Mustang/Cougar/Lincoln/etc.) had and the large bearing rears can accept axles bigger than the 31 spline. The center sections are the same.

That is a great idea. Getting perches welded is child's play.
What spline axle do these things have?
Could you not use 8" axles if they are 28 spline? That would save mods to the truck axles...
Just a thought, although unlikely.

The 8" is a toothpick. Those who argue that are full of

9" =

EB (Early Bronco) rear 9" are 58" WMS to WMS. They came with either 3.54 (in the V8) or 4.11 (in the I-6)

Big bearings started to appear as early as 72, but some small bearings were used up until 74. Something else to take note of is the larger brakes. They use an 11" drum, versus the 10" in the cars. EB's always came with the 28 spline axles, 31 splines weren't available until 78 *in the big Bronco 65" axle* and pretty much all of the EB axles came with the factory L/S diff.

With the strong following of the 9" nowadays, you can get up to 35 spline axles, and there is a 40 spline version that is to be available soon (w/D60 outers from what I understand)

Sunray is pretty much the end-all-be-all when it comes to beefy 9" axles. (what I'm getting in the next few weeks )

A new idea, finally done right. Not for the cheapskates, or the faint of heart. A high pinion 9", and no, it's not using 8.8 gears like the Currie. True High 9"

I'll have a bone stock 9" for sale soon (from an EB) if you're in DFW, and interested, PM me. (3.54, LS, 11" drums 5 on 5-1/2 lugs) To stick it in a 'Stang, you'll need new shock mounts, and new spring perches.

Well you are not the only one... Cracked my case on evening Sunday... Lost a driveshaft, both silencers and an alu-radiator... I just hope I can get it back together with some euros... Salvage yards for Stangs aren´t so common here in Finland...
