I dont know where to look, so I hoped you guys could help me out.
I have a 66 coupe that is just about complete, but I can't get the blinkers working, thus no inspection sticker.

Here is what I did:
The horn was not working, tracked it down to a bad (whatever that blinker plastic thing is in the steering column).

I replaced it and all the wiring, plugged every thing up and it seemed to work.

My son took it to get it inspected and came back in 2 minutes.

He said first time he turned on the blinkers, smoke came out of the steering column, and then no blinkers.

It is possible I goofed up the wiring, but at this point I have no power to the wiring harness, and I dont know where to look.

Flasher maybe?
Is there a fuse for blinkers?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

took it apart, and dont see any melted wires.

where is blinker switch?

The turn signal switch is housed in the steering colum at the base of the steering wheel. It sounds like you shorted out the wiring bundle of the turn signal switch. Pick up a new FORD switch and rewire it.

Are you using a stock or aftermarket steering wheel?

I did the exact same thing twice and both times, the wires in the blinker looked fine and both times there was smoke.
Turns out it was the horn that was smoking.

Look at that dics that the horn "springy things" (technical term) rotate against. see if the copper is damaged.

Like I said, this happened to me twice and so I just rewired the whole damn car.
I am glad I did. Even w/ the rewire I had issues w/ the blinkers though they are f#$king tough!
