Blinkers not working!!

Check the flasher. It's the round thing in your fuse box under the dash.

you can find the flasher in several places: near the fuse box, under the dash between the column and center console, behind the radio, below/behind the glovebox.......

try turning your ignition key forward a little bit. Not enough to engage the starter just a little. My car did the same thing. If it is the flasher usually the blinker will just stay on and not blink. Mine didnt come on at all. Let us know what it ended up being. Later.

a flasher coming on solid and not blinking is a sign of a burned out bulb. the flasher still is conducting current, but there is not enough draw through the contacts to bend the bi-metallic spring and open the circuit.

Slightly off-topic: I have also seen bulbs flash faster when one is burnt out -- is that just a wiring difference between different cars? (I think it is.) I don't understand how the flasher would be different to cause it.

Adam, I am not sure about your exact question. generally, a quick flash is caused by improper wattage (too high). However, we are addressing stangs with stock (mechanical) turn signal relays. electronic flashers (which one can retrofit to a stang) can flash faster with a bulb out (though it really should not, it can happen).
Also, as you mentioned, some cars use different lighting configurations. an example would be using the same bulb for turn signals and brake lights, and that can open a whole new can of worms.

I bet someone with more knowledge will chime in.

That probably answered my question...never even occurred to me. Thanks.

The flasher in the fuse panel is usually for the hazard lights. Turn them on and pull the flasher to see if they stop. The turn signal flasher is usually tucked under the dash someplace.

it's kinda hard for me to look around under the dash (i'm 6'2) but i spent a good ten minutes looking around today and for the life of me i couldnt find it, the hazards work but signals do not....

The flasher is under the dash. On my 79 and 82 it is in the fuse box.

On the 89, the flasher unit is mounted to the fusebox and the turn signal flasher is mounted to instrument panel reinforcement above the fuse panel.
