I have a roller cam block (from 1990 GT) that I want to prep for a 347 stroker. How much should I expect to pay for .030 overbore (has to be bored due to minor damage), align hone the mains and deck the block?

I'm in the place, it depends on where you shop around. Don't spend too much on the stock block, you can get one brand new ready to assemble for under $400, DSS sells the bored and notched ready for the stroker for around $700, a sportsman for the $800 range, and the R and Dart for under $2,000. I say this because I know a guy who paid a machine shop $1800 to fully prep his stock block for a 331, not assemble, just machine and install cam berrings and freeze plugs.

cost, like quality varies greatly when it comes to machine work. Check around with the locals to see who they recomend, then call a couple of the shops they recomend and aske how much it will cost. Also, ask if they have tourqe plates for a Ford small block, if they don't-don't bother go somewhere else that does. A lot of shops do not do enough ford work to invest in them, and you want a tourqe plat hone to get the best results.

BTW, I paid $15 to have engine tanked, $45 to magnaflux, $50 for the bore, $75 for the hone, $50 to have zero decked and squared, $100 to line bore ($15 of which was for the inspection of the main bores) on a '69 351W. All work was top notch and for the price of this work he also deburred the block, installed the main studs, oil/freeze plugs, and checked my setup for clearance (bearings and reciprocating assy. for stroker) that all adds up to a lot, but nothing compared to the $500 to ballance the bottom end to neutral ballance.
In the end I have a lot better block then any new one, as ALL new blocks are in need of some work.

Whoa, it wasn't me. I remember talking to him and said something about rebuilding the engine. He started talking of how expencive it was. He totalled the car and tried to sell his 331 unused, wanted some crazy price for it and I asked why he was asking so much and he said it was less than what he invested in it. Some people are really missinformed. I am so glad these forums are out there.
