On the low setting, the blower motor in my 97 GT makes a rather annoying tweeting or chirping sound. It has gotten louder, more frequent and more annoying lately. I assume it is a bearing in the blower motor? At higher blower settings, I don't hear the noise, but probably because everything else is more noisy.

So if it is the blower motor, I assume I have to go through the very painful process of removing the dash to replace the motor? ick....

The Ford service manual has the inside blower motor replacement as a straight forward R&R with nothing special to remove to gain access.

Consider replacing the blower resister at the same time.

Wow, I find it funny that I took my blower motor out THIS WEEKEND. It is very easy to do; it is located under the dash on the passenger side, 3 screws and a connector and voila. Took me 5 minutes to take it out. For me, a piece of factory electrical tape had somehow gotten down in the fan and was tapping the fins every time they came around. Was about to annoy the crap out of me, but I was very pleased when I found out how easy it was.

Thanks guys, good to hear. I've replaced heater cores on several fox body cars and it is not fun. I was expecting the motor to be pretty deep behind the dash.

I'll pull the motor out and see what I can see. Sometimes, it sounds like there is a leaf in the fan, and other days, like today, I didn't hear anything at all. Knowing it is so easy, I'll yank the motor out.

Mine was like that until I went to the track a couple weeks ago. Sometimes it would do it, and then sometimes it wouldn't. After I went to the track, it started doing it permanently. I guess some of that mad tyte powwaa I'm making jarred the piece of tape down in there further. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

I pulled the fan motor out this morning and a little bit of debris fell out. I also tried to oil the bearings of the motor. At least today, it isn't making noise. If the noise return later on, then I know how to replace the motor.
