Blower resistor

Help I have replaced two resistors in my Mustang as soon as I turn on the power to check the air flow I see that the resistor is smoking. I now have replaced the housing with the wires and it still smoking so I’m not sure if I went far enough back to find a short in the wire or is it something else I’m not seeing or know about please help

Does the blower fan run on HIGH?

Note the resister needs air flow to stay cool. So IF the blower motor isn't spinning at all then the resister will over heat.

What have you done to confirm that the blower motor itself works? What happens when the blower motor is powered directly with 12 volts DC?
