I'm bored, and curious. Which would you guys rather have? A mach 1/99-01 Cobra 4v n/a setup (which you could of course mod up with bolt ons and such, but it has to stay N/A), or a bolt-on and blown 2v (8-9psi max for this comparison). I'm wondering because I am soon going to add 6psi to my motor and I wonder how it's going to hang with other cars now, and then eventually stack up when it's done (by eventually I mean an end goal of 9 psi, cams, stg II heads, forged motor). I've driven a few Machs, and they felt stout, but by no means earth shattering. I think the overall package was what attracted me (I'm a sucker for a shaker), and they were all bone stock. Now my 04 GT already feels tons faster than my old 87 (300 rwhp/tq), and it will be my first FI car, so I'm wondering if I'm losing anything boosting this car rather than having bought a Mach (I'm kinda already stuck with this car no matter what, but entertain me).

And my limitations in this scenario are to represent that the extra money it would cost me to buy a Mach over a GT was spent on the blower for my GT. All other bolt ons, like suspension, shifter, exhaust, appearance mods, etc... are all a wash between the two cars, since the drivetrain, brakes, and some cosmetics are the only differences. I would not, for a long time, have the money to supercharge a Mach ( nor forge my motor, get cams and heads, etc... on the GT), so I'd be where I am at either way right now mods wise, but with a N/A Mach or my soon to be roots blown GT.

Am I better or worse off?

Skip the roots blower and buy a Kenne Bell twin screw, or a Vortech Mongoose kit from Modular Powerhouse. 6psi on a non-intercooled Eaton setup...will honestly not be all that fast.

Well, I already have the whole blower setup, and I kinda want to try and make big power on it. Since I can't intercool, I'm eventually going to add a 2 stage meth kit to keep things cooler. I want to be the first guy to make 500 RWHP on that blower. Not sure if it's even possible, but it'll be fun trying. And if I eventually want more, anything I do to the motor chasing 500hp would compliment another blower down the line. Right now, this is a budget build, once I get college paid off, it becomes an all out build.

That's going to cost WAY more than making 500rwhp with an S-trim, or even a KB... Don't "budget build" something and make outlandish goals, you'll just end up letting yourself down when you make 330-350rwhp IMO, sell what you got and buy a more capable kit. And also, if you're going to run what you got, port the crap out of the manifold, blower, and plenum - gotta get some of those free HP if you wanna reach your goals

Haha, right now it's a 6 psi, 350RWHP budget build. I just graduated from nursing school last year, so most of my money is going to pay that off. Once that and the car are paid off, then I can really throw money at it, and I know it'll cost more to do it with this blower, but I've kinda gone out of my way to do unique stuff on this car. I eventually want a feature in a mustang magazine ( promise I made to a friend who has passed) and I think if the car has unique atributes, it will get me there. It would be a "claim to fame" if I'm making 500RWHP on a blower everyone else said can't do it. Even if it means forged stroker motor, high boost, the best heads and cams I can get, and whatever else I'll need to do it. It'll be fun, and if i actually pull it off, I think it'd be pretty rewarding.

My question was more of: will my 6psi setup be better or worse than a Mach 1 with the mods you see in my siggy.

Also, I can't afford to sell what I have and upgrade. I'd maybe get 1500 for my setup, including the supporting parts I put together for it, and a good roots/screw blower is like 3k. I'm not a fan of centris, I like instant power, not wind up.

If you were starting from scratch asking this question I'd say go with the 4v NA as it will be more reliable and still be pretty damn fast with some bolt ons. However since you have the blower and would have to trade your car to get a Mach 1 I say just put the blower on.

Haha, I kinda love how nobody can stay on topic when you get into a power-adder conversation. You can ask about any one, and you're sure to hear "paxton, vortech, mongoose, kenne bell, turbo, nitrous" somewhere in that thread. Everybody's minds start running wild with ideas of boost and insta-power.

I'd lean towards the 2v it will be cheaper in the long run to get the numbers you want I think.

Parts for the 4v's allready cost more, then you figure in that you have to buy 2 more cams etc... 2v is def. gonna be cheaper because either way you're going to need to reinforce the motor to get that 500 rwhp

You can get the 2v up 300 rwhp without to much of a problem. Get some cams, LT headers, intake, P&P and a 93 oct tune.

Myself, I'm an old fashion N/A fan. no 'roids allowed . You can make some decent power staying N/A on a Mach. With all the normal bolt-ons plus some Cams and an aftermarket Intake Manifold, you could be putting down around 350RWHP. That's nothing to sneeze at.

It is when an LS series Chevy motor can put 350rwhp down with less mods, and still have a plethora of options to choose from, and make well over 400rwhp with a heads/cam/intake setup...

I am not trying to start a cubic inch war, because I know the Chevy has more displacment, but still, it reacts far better than the Ford does.

A boosted 2v or 4v can be a very potent weapon. So can a BUILT 2v or 4v, but it will take alot of work and money to get there and produce numbers that will hang with the big boys.

When it comes to modular motors, boost > N/A.
