I'm thinking about putting some blue lights in my air cleaner so the light will shine though the air cleaner and make it glow blue. Should be cool because I will be attending some shows. Anyone else done this before? I'd have to find some lights that won't get too hot.

I woudn't do it, or even think about it anymore Boss 351.... One neon light or LED lead's to another and then another and then a kit and before you know it you got a riced up Stang on your hand's. Forget the idea.... Not only that if one of those bulb's or neon's were to shatter, explode or break inside your air cleaner which is a 99% chance of happening your going to have a bunch of crap going right through your carb and into your engine (Say Bye, Bye To Your Motor). Why a 99% chance of breaking you ask?....Neon's and LED's weren't designed to withstand heat, gas and all the aspect's of what goes on near a carb inside your air cleaner.... Don't try it.

BAH...

I respect someone for trying to be different. A little trick lighting can be tasteful if done right, and as long as there's no fart pipes, carbon-fiber wing and Type-R stickers on there, it should NOT be too hard to keep it un-riced.

Give it a shot man. If it looks like crap, take it off. If not, run with it.

EDIT: Added the word NOT were I somehow forgot to type it before.

Obviously you didn't read my post further up.... would you like having pieces of neon tube or LED's falling into your engine after they blow or break from the heat and gas fumes inside the air cleaner????? Think About it.....
Not only that, but if you were dumb enough to put light's inside your air cleaner not much light would escape through the air filter.

I respect someone trying to be different as well, but this idea just simply woudn't work.... and it is on the ricer side a bit but that's not the point.

I wasn't aware that he was carbureted, first of all. I figured a small blue LED in a Mustang airbox would be mostly harmless - not something I would do, but logically, it sounded decent. Now that I realize that he's carbed, I can see your point clearly.

Show cars, in order to stand out often need more than just a really clean fit & finish. Suggesting with any degree of certainty that one small touch of light will lead to more and more of them is just silly. The man asked for opinions, and in my opinion, a *small* and *tasteful* touch of light or chrome here and there does not make a riced-out Mustang.

I don't think anything I said deserved that kind of attitude. I make a mistake and have now admitted it. Relax.

Whoa Ironheart!!!!! I wasn't upset or giving you attitude, I just want to insure that no one goes and does a stupid thing like that.... I really don't like neon stuff though so maybe I was a little disturbed that someone want's to put Neon S**T on there Stang (I hate Neon With A Passion And I'm Sure Other's On Stangnet Do As Well). But you know, we all have our own idea's and preference's I guess (Although This One Makes No Sense). No Hard Feeling's Man.

Alright man, my bad. I was having a rough night and it's sometimes tough to gauge stuff like tone and inflection through text :p No hard feelings at all... I totally understand where you're coming from, there are a few things I pretty vehemently dislike on cars that I get disgruntled about, so I get ya.

On another side note - Boss 351, I had an idea. if you have a carbed engine and really want to try a neon look, mount a small neon bar behind the carb, under the air filter. You'll still get a nice glow that will shine on the underside of your hood and, if its dark, I think you'll get pleasing results if that's what you're going for.

408 - Again.. No hard feelings, like I said. Rough night, I got defensive. Don't sweat it

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRice!!!!!

Someone call Uncle Ben!!

Make sure you get that light up shifter knob from Autozone and some LED pedel covers while you're at it.

C'mon man!?!? You should know better! Unless you're competeing in shows where the Ricers are the judges, just let your car stand on it's own. Polished or painted and attention to detail are the ways to show success....not light up filters.

Some of you are so f***ing stupid! If you think the following is rice, suck my huge dick.

enginebay1.jpg

BTW, this is step one. I got another engine on the stand that will be built this winter. Once that one is done, I will have the engine bay detailed again, this time no more freaking holes everywhere. I want a show room car. And if you don't understand how many hours it takes to transform a 100% stock, dirty, rusty, and greasy 4 banger to what I have now than you are a ricer at heart.

I wasnt calling your car rice, just saying that even though it's kinda neat, LEDs in your filter just arent needed, and if you're hoping to win a car show with a little added touch like that, IMO it won't work, if anything it'll shoot you down. Any respecting car show looks down on over modded stuff like that. I was kinda trying to complement that your car doesnt need that sort of thing to look good, so sorry if it came out differently.

LEDs in the filter are the same catagory as neons underneath.

Nice come back boss...

I think it has potential. I'd consider putting four little LED's on the bottom of the air filter housing to give the motor and chrome a 'red' glow withthe hood up at a cruise in. I like the effect, just not bulbs or neon sticks hanging out with wires draped across the motor. It has to have a cool effect to be cool. I love popping my hood at night at the local auto zone just to see the red neon reflect off of all the chrome and polished parts. If I can duplicate it without showing the bulbs I may try it.

Haven't gotten to the neons in the car though, all the autometer gauges glow green and that's enough for me.

It sounds like a cool idea, not worth the damage it could cause though. And as far as neon stuff being rice and oh so forbiden, as long as you have it under control and not all over the place it's fine. I have a 7 color LED underbody kit, looks pretty kick ass. And the best part is that you won't even know it's there unless you look for it during the day. At night it's pretty easy to see lol.
