Body weight (coupe)

Hey, I'm in the process of restoring my 67 Coupe and wanna build my own rotisserie for media blasting, welding, and other rust repair. Does anyone know how much JUST the body weighs? No body panels, wiring, glass, brake lines, etc. This girl is GUTTED. Damn this stuff is too expensive to pay for!

Don't know for sure how much it weighs but some guys have used two engine stands to hold the body. They are usually rated for between 750 - 1000 lbs each.

Holy crap!!! That's exactly what I want! How did you do it? What kind of stands-regular 750lb engine? How did you mount the car, especially the back? Oh, just out of curiosity, how big is your garage-mine's 22x22. Any pics of the mountings would help BIGTIME! Thanks

I didn't use the engine stand approach because I had enough 2x2x3/16 steel tubing around to make mine from scratch. I have more info on my home computer and will post it when I get home. Another reason I didn't use engine stands is I needed a way to raise the body up high enough to rotate. That is why you see the hydraulic rams in the pic. I saw something really similar to mine posted on the web and just modified it to suit my needs.

My question I was considering building one but I would put it on the car and the way I would work on it is outside, now how easy are these to push move around say into a garage with the wheels on the base? Cuz I would rather push it back into my garage with the car still on it.

Oh, just out of curiosity, how big is your garage-mine's 22x22.

Those pics were at a friend's house. I lived there between graduating college and buying a house. That picture was taken a little over a year ago. It was a nice big 3/4 car garage, heated, 240v power, tons of lights, hot and cold water, bathroom, it has everything. My friend still lives there and is gathering parts for a FFR cobra build he wants to start.

My garage now is an attached 20 x 25 with 10 ft ceilings. We are looking at building a 750ft^2 barn (biggest allowed in city unless it's attached to the house) sometime this summer, it would be strictly for my toys. the regular garage would be for my wife's car and my truck.

The pivot points for the front and rear mount slides up and down my uprights. I lower the rams, attached the car, jack up both ends, tighten a few jam bolts, and rotate the car to my hearts content. I used the rams because I don't have a way to lift the body high enough to mount and rotate it otherwise.

I would do that by incorporating pneumatic wheels or casters at each corner. Just make sure if you do that you tie the two end stands together with a long piece of steel.
