Bolt on Exhaust with no Welding

Hey Gang,

I have a stock 96 GT and want to put an exhaust system on it. I really only care about the sound, not so much the performance. I had a 94 GT a few years back with an off road h-pipe and some flows. I want this car to sound like the last one, but I just saw that flowmaster has a few different types of mufflers now. Which is the best flowmaster to get? Also I don't want to do any welding, so is there a bolt on exhaust kit from the headers back? If not what do I need to buy to make it scream? Lastly, does the 96 GT have 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch exhaust? Thanks.

flowmaster sucks......i dont like them and ill never buy thier product again....try magnaflow ... go to this site www.mustangexhaust.com and listen to different types

the magnaflow MAGNAPACK is what you want its bolt on or weld on

Thanks for the info guys. If I do the Flows 40 series, what else do I need to bolt on? I guess just the h-pipe and flow tubes? What about tail pipes? I want stainless steel, but don't tail pipes need to be welded on? Thanks.

You want a "cat-back" system (flow tubes, mufflers, tail pipes) and an x- or h-pipe (to replace the 'intermediate' pipe (with 4 cats). Cost is $300-$500 for the cat-back and the x/h pipe is $150 to $400 depending if you get high-flow cats or an "off-road" pipe. Look at PartShopper here for popular examples. MustangExhaust.com will give you more clues to other manufacturers as well as how many combinations sound.

The cat-back just clamps together, either with u-clamps or band-type clamps. The x- or h-pipe just bolts together (manifold end and then to the cat-back).

Stock exhaust is 2.25" diameter. You will probably want to upgrade to 2.5" mandrel bent tubing (so no kinks or decrease in diameter at the bends).

due to the fact of thier name many novices buy on the name alone

im stainless steel from the cats back hows that rust on the BLOWMASTERS from the cats to the tips working for yea ? i heard that the more the flowmasters pipes oxidise the more HP and torque you get

what does everybody work for magnaflow or what ??? you ask anything about exhaust... you should get magnaflow bla bla bla and all others suck right ???

If you've got the money, go Bassani. I originally had 40 series flows welded in, and I am telling you that the flows were not as loud. My friend tells me that he can hear me pull up when I am like 1/8-1/4 mile away from his house! The flowmasters just seem louder because of the resonance they produce, they don't flow for junk. The Bassani has even more drone (which I love by the way), and is even louder when coming out of the tailpipes. After many driveby's, I had to get the Bassani. Borla is an exceptional product as well.

If you want performance SLP X with loud mouth cat back system. THis is hi flow and all stainless steal.

You can bolt on any 2.5" cat back system without welding so just get one that you like. There are more choices out there besides Blowmaster and
F a g naflow so choose what you want, not what people tell you to get.

i have 40 series flows and the sound isnt all that loud. more mellow

id say go with SLP.

It's all up to personal taste as far as the sound goes...but if you want it to last, I would pick from SLP, Borla, Magnaflow, or Bassani. Flowmaster and Mac are known for poor quality (read, not stainless and will rust).

Ahhhh... The sound of ignorance... I suppose you know this from firsthand experience? Oh wait.. a friend of a friend told you. I have had my flormaster catback installed since 2001, and my car is daily driven, even in the snow and salt. There is VERY LITTLE rust, mainly only minor surface rust on the welds. The polished tips still look alright too, granted, they are getting some carbon build-up, but you'll have that with my exhaust setup. Plus, the car sound absolutely bad ass. I have recieved comments from several people, plus first hand when a tech pulled my car onto a lift at a tire store. And to everyone who says straight-thru mufflers add more power, unless you're running a turbo set-up, you will see very little (if any) performance difference.

I just got the American Thunder cat-back, and I like it. I ran a best of 14.0@99.9 before with Dynomax Ultra flo's dumped... switched to the flows and installing a Steeda T/A at 15* and I ran a best of 13.7@101.7. I'm sure the power gain was mostly from the T/A, but I definitely did not LOSE power with the flows and the sound flat-out rocks compared to before.
