Bolt on header stripped...

The bolt on the header on the passenger side that the h-pipe goes on has stripped. How would I go about getting that off? It seems like its not meant to come out since you cant reach the back of it.

lol did you drop the k-member? a lot of those bolts are impossible to reach unless you do that (or have a nice lift).

Mine did that, ended up taken the shop 4 hours to cut it out and replace it

All I can say is take it to a shop, or your gonna have a rough time.

If you strip it, just grab the next smallest size metric medium deepwell, and hammer it on, then use airtools if you have them to break it loose. Using the next smallest size is about the only good way. And whoever said to drop the K member, that's totally unncessary for a mid-pipe swap.

if there is enough room, can u grip it with vice grip, and give it a world?

Or air grinder does wonders. My Bellhousing bolt got rounded off(one at the top of belhousing. impossible to get any tool there), and i used grinder and grinded the head off. took me loooog time, but it worked. Love the grinders!!!

What I meant to say was that the threads were ****ed up, not the actual top of the bolt which I don't even know can be taken off from the other side as I can't really get back there to see if its a bolt or its just welded on the header. In normal operation, on this bolt you should only have to be taking the nut off without holding the bolt still to tighten it because of its hard to get to location.

Do you mean the entire bolt is spinning now?

No I mean the bolt has no movement at all. I think because there is no way to get anything to hold the bolt tight while tightening the nut from the other side, its simply locked in place and only the nut is supposed to tighten down the exhaust unlike the other parts of the exhaust that are easier to get to from both sides so you can use a wrench to hold down the bolt and a ratchet to tighten down the nut.

It is just the stud then? is there a bolt head on the back side or can you tell

It's kind of hard to feel back there but I think I checked and I couldn't feel anything.

Ahhh.. I got ya. There's a stud kit napa sells that will allow you to replace these. I've never done it myself, but a lot of people doing mid-pipe swaps seem to do this. Somebody should chime in...

that stud can be removed and replaced with the stud kit from Napa. You may or may not need a shop to do it for you. That depends on the tools and mechanical ability you have.

Which stud kit would I need, or is it just one kit? I've got plenty of tools for the job.

Go to a NAPA store or call and use this number, 600-1819. I think that is correct. I will check again to be sure.
