Bolt on peformance 94 5.0

I'm looking to increase performance and HP on my 5.0. I am not a mechanic or even close. I am looking to get information on best types of heads, intakes, cams and any other parts I may need to get as much HP as possible that is reasonably priced. My son will probably be doing the work so any information would be good to help him out. The only things I have done so far is to put a K & N cold air induction on, headers and straight pipes from the converters back.

no first hand experience here but alot on guys here swear by the Trickflow HCI kit. good power and reasonably priced.

i think with a custom tune after the installation and supporting mods, it would be safe to say you would be around the 300whp mark and you would be capable of low-mid 13 sec quarter miles ......maybe even high 12s

what sort of budget are you wanting to go with? while the Trickflow HCI kit is a good bang for the buck, it can be a bit pricey.

supercharger is bolt-on...look at the FAQ sticky thread at the top to see what other users are running. lots of good stuff in there. searching is the key here.

I agree with the TrickFlow top end pacakage kit. It will yield you almost 300whp, and low 13 sec - high 12 sec timeslips all day on some sticky tires and go with 3.73 gears or 4.10's i have even seen better times with that setup in sn95's like mid 12's good luck. Def get the kit.

ditto about the gears. this guy speaks the truth, along with another above post. a lower gear will def give you that SOTP feeling.

a gear swap is fairly inexpensive compared to some other mods. good bang for the buck.

Dont forget to budget for tuning (be it self-tuning or a chip). That can be a decent chunk of change.

local performance shop nearby charges $600-$800 for dyno time, custom tune and chip

i hear everywhere that gears are one of the first mods to get as a starter, gonna find out in a couple of weeks.

Thanks. It looks like I should start with the trickflow kit and gears. What kind of tune will I need after the trickflow kit or will a chip take care of the mods?

better let the stangnet pro's give u a for sure answer on that but from what i understand a off-the-shelf chip probably will not solve your tuning issues. when the heads, cam and intake are changed on 94/95 cars ( even just a cam swap ) the cars computer goes psycho.......most of the time. i believe there are a few guys on here ( cant remember their handles ) that have done a HCI swap and still maintain good driveability. i think for most of the 94/95 guys after a HCI, its best to take your car to a performance shop and have it professionally tuned. this will eliminate problems such as running lean, stalling, bucking. you can always buy a hand held tuner yourself and a laptop and tune yourself. i think that may be geared more toward the advanced, which def would not be me. tuners are pricey especially with a laptop and will probably surpass the cost of getting a pro tune.

not sure on this but i think even with the car needing a tune, it ( in most cases ) would still be driveable.

with the cost of a trickflow kit and gears with supporting mods.....its going to cost alot of dough ( even a little more with a tune ). but i hear the fun factor is thru the roof!

I think alot of people use the A9L computer out of the late fox-body GTs. They offer a little more aggresive tune, and better driveability after major mods such as this.

Well i have the Trickflow kit, and without a tune it does suck driving it. But know just with the Tweecer, just making changes on the scalors helped out alot. I can only imaging if i knew what i was doing

Gears and the trick flow kit will be a GREAT start. But no get a tune other wise you will have a bunch of drivability problems. I dont know if your car is auto or 5spd but with an auto and gears you should get a tune alone for shift points and such.

I don't need to reiterate what's already been said 10 times, so you get the idea...

go with some 3.73's or steeper, and an HCI upgrade of any kind is going to make your car feel like a whole new beast....again....tune it.

Also, look into some subframe connectors and some good lowering springs...lower center of gravity, and tying the undercarriage of your car together will make it feel a whole lot more stiff in the corners..

exhaust first!!! then some gears, and get the bolt-ons, headers, UD pullies, TB, ect
Then when you do a good h/c/i you have all the other goodies!

the 94 GT I just bought has the mods listed in my sig. Once I take delivery next week I am going to do a high performance tune-up, and get a JLT CAI, and a set of polished aluminum underdrive pulleys, then an o/r H-pipe, and mil eliminators. That will keep me happy for a month or so, and then I will start another round of bolt-ons.

THIS is EXACTLY why I bought a 94 5.0, you can build power slowly and inexpensively as money allows, and still afrord to drive it, and get an erection on the sound and performance!!! I LOVE these cars!!!

MIL elim's are for OBD-II cars with secondary O2's to monitor catalyzation efficiency (efficiency isn't too hot when there are no longer any cats present). A 94-95 GT won't have secondary O2's, ergo no need for MIL's.
